No I stayed in one of the tents at Croc bridge. Were you caught up in a one hour gate opening disaster. Other people will not understand the urgency to get into the park as I believe you do as well. That is why I prefer entering the park at one of the Northern gates.

No I wasn't. Have you seen them on a regular bases? At Croc brigde for instance? How many people are usually in a queue? (by estimation?) |

Personal experience, never waited more that ten minutes at a gate to be helped. I would say we were about four to five cars at numbi gate. Fortunately I was one of the early birds. The others waited for me to finish. This situations usualy only occcurs early in the morning at gates which are situated nearby bigger towns such as Phalaborwa and Malelane.

During school holidays a very relaxing alternative to the traffic jams of the tar roads. Have seen lion there, plenty of impala, elephants and general game. December 2010 -- 30 minutes spent with stunning male leopard criss-crossing the road -- only 1 other car arrived at end of show! Stopped to appreciate my pics after the show, and suddenly looked out the window -- the leopard was back, had walked right up to my open window and peeped at us -- he had already turned around and was walking away, but was no more than 3-4m from us!
Other times it was rather quiet... God bless, Friedrich von Horsten |

WOW Friedrich
Any chance you would share a pic of that sighting here, please? I guess a sighting like that to yourself makes up for the quiet trips down the road |

This where my children had their first sighting of Rhino. My son was 3 years old. There was lots of excitement.. and then the words.. Mommy, I want to wee.
This has remained my Rhino road, although I have yet to see another. I seldom take the road, but it is peaceful. I have seen many raptors and odds and sods. There is very seldom traffic, so for those who want to escape the mad rush, it is perfect. |

Had Lion, a huge Tusker along this road.
Last month I spent about 4 hrs with a beautiful male Leopard who had a warthog kill in a tree right alongside the road. This was a few km south of the second river bed. Usually a quiet road but always worth investigating at least once during a visit. |

Bert, i just came from the S82. I read your rêquest last night whilst at Bïyamiti and thought giving it a go last hour of our 1st niight at Lower Sabie.
After passing a herd of impalas and 2km down, we got 2 male Lions lying in thick grass about 30m from road only see the tails goin up and down. Patience paid off. A herd of elephant approached near them and the one jumpef up and ran towards me as it got a fright. Hr looked me straight in the eyes 7m away as I was tryïng to get the car started for Windows to work. I managed to get a few Clicks in. It went down lying behind another bush...the ellies passed and we eaitrf again till gate Close. Zebra an other walked pass in close range. So, seems you must give it s go next time. I will do it tomorrow again. Greetings from LS. |
