the 'face' certainly looks like a barn owl's, but i think it is just the angle of the pic. the size, colour and legs suggest verreaux's to me.
I had feared that answer. Desperately trying to find different species.

Thanks for your advice again, lettuceleaf!

LS, I think this one is a fiscal shrike - oops common fiscal. Please could someone tell us if they think it is a fiscal.

Could these perhaps be whitethroated swallows? Newman says "resident all year at low altitudes".

Fiscal Flycatcher in both the above images.

In the second image the white bar on its wing is not very clear because its wing is slightly lowered.

Hi bird-experts! :D

Can you please help me to ID the raptor below?
I thought of a kite because of the forked tail,
but wouldn't know which one to match because of
the colour of the plummage going with it. :?

Forgive me LS, I am busy reasearching the ID as I type, but I hope that is not an Africam insignia I see in your image?

I would say Yellow-billed Kite or Black Kite, most likely the former. :D

As a matter of fact it was, Tom.

Thanks for your ID help. Not sure about the kite though as I said above. The plummage looks a bit too greyish. But then again it might only be a trick of the light. :hmz:

Well it is a difficult ID... particularly facing away from the cam. As you rightly pointed out the forked tail is indicative of a kite but I'm sure an expert will set me straight if I'm wrong

Lappet-faced would be first choice.

Hi LS,

I'd hazard a guess at an immature Black-chested Snake-eagle.
