My total moves up to 802 with Cuckoofinch. Thanks Niall.
Congrats Dewald! That is a landmark well passed! If I have to set a target for 2010 it will be a realistic and humble 810. |

I ended up the 2009 year on 817 species, the last lifer I added in the year being Mountain Pipit in Lesotho. I found the nest and photographed a juvenile which was quite special. The pictures are here.
My target for 2010 is to have some fun birding! (So far so good - some links to some of my newest pics are linked on my homepage.) Cheers, a bird filled 2010 to all of you! Niall. |

Hi all.
I am relatively new to birding and I have been a bit reluctant to add my total to this forum topic until it looked a little "substantial". However, with a recent holiday trip to Mount Sheba and Kruger, my list went over the 200 mark, so I feel confident to post my total of 203. Hopefully I can improve on it significantly during 2010. |

Hi BushAddict
Well done and glad that you have come to the birding party! Niall, Hanno, Lizet and co do set quite a high standard but the fun to get there is quite a journey! Enjoy your birding and posting on the forum. I haven't submitted my total for a couple of months - end of December really Fredelance.... CHERRIES - 228. Hoping my next trip will improve this! |

Eish. Looks like people have been busy birding! Congrats on all barriers broken, target species found etc. We had a bit of a family break over Christmas and did a belated honeymoon - luckily I took my binos because I found 19 lifers taking me up to 606!
In order of appearance: Common Swift (Nshawu, Kruger NP) Garden Warbler (Mabukuweni NR, Bulawayo) Northern Grey-headed Sparrow (Toro Lodge, Kasane) Purple-banded Sunbird (Toro Lodge & Kalizo Lodge, Caprivi) Copper Sunbird (Mowana Lodge, Kasane) African Crake (Kalizo) Sand Martin (Kalizo) Black Coucal (Kalizo) White-browed Coucal (Kalizo, Shakawe & Okavango Delta) Luapula Cisticola (Kalizo & Okavango Delta) Plain-backed Pipit (Kalizo & Okavango Delta) Violet Woodhoopoe* (close to Shamvura Camp) Souza's Shrike (close to Shamvura) African Golden Oriole (close to Shamvura) European Honey-Buzzard (Mahango NR) Slaty Egret (Mahango NR & Okavango Delta) Western Banded Snake-Eagle (Shakawe) Chirping Cisticola (Okavango Delta) Greater Swamp-Warbler (Okavango Delta) *The sighting of Violet Woodhoopoes this far east in Namibia might be contentious since the distribution maps do not show the species east of Rundu. However, all the marked differences with the Green Woodhoopoe were clearly present (longer tail, coppery head, blue/violet shine in stead of green). |

A wide-ranging birding trip that served as a honeymoon and you managed to sell it the other way round... heheheheeee. Well done on breaking the 600-mark, Joel.
