Thanks for all the comments!!!!!
- Pikasso: that was my thoughts exactly! I am going to try get a still pic off the video footage. She was very relaxed even with the light on her. I am still getting the rest of the footage loaded....but she wanders around, comes back to the waterhole.....and even when I was later joined by a family, the extra noise and creaks from the hide did not bother her at all! So will get to that still pic...... |

More of the Nossob beauty.....
[videohttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgICi_D1LPA][/video] And so she disappeared to the north of the camp. Feeling rather chuffed, I started back to camp.....knowing that somewhere around there was a rather large leopardess..... .......Needless to say, sleep was difficult to come by......but eventually drifted off with thoughts of......Was that the Twee Rivieren female/Maja??? Will try to do some stills over the next few days and hopefully Pikasso wouldn't mind seeing if it is..... |

sometimes feelings never lie :-). Respondig to "...walikng in my PJ and a torch to defend".
Yes I know the feeling It´s great. If you see animals without a car its a better feeling. I´m alsways surprised how the senses develop then... |

Sorry for the looooonnnnnggggg break, but I now have some stills of the leopard. They are not the best quality though.....combination of my shaky hand and my cameras poor quality at night.....
So Pikasso, I hope you will be able to ID this leopard from these terrible shots!!! 1st objective in the mission to determine if this is the Twee Rivieren female was to check if this was in fact a female... ![]() ![]() And I think it is a female!!!! Now the second part....a good shot of the face for ID using spots..... this was difficult and I shall carry on trying to get better stills off the video footage....![]() ![]() So any thoughts? Twee Rivieren female or not? |

After the lights go out.....it is very dark (if there is no moon) at the Nossob waterhole .... and shy preditors roam about! Very fortunate indeed to see this amazing animal at the waterhole! Leopards are 'areabound' as most of us know, therefore this must be the resident Nossob Leopard!
We were in the Nossop Camp up until the last day of December 2010 and my son-in-law, Brendon, recorded these wonderful moments on the night of the 29th of December 2010 at about 9.30 pm. A Brownie appeared from the dark and started drinking at the waterhole when he suddenly "puffed" himself up in the direction of the darkness. ![]() The Brownie then becacame very nervous and anxious and started retrieving into the opposite darkness and the next moment, this beautiful speciman of a Leopard appeared from the dark like a phantom ..........! ![]() He did not stay arround too long though! |

WOW!!! Fantastic sighting, how lucky!! Thanks for showing us, no worries, better late than never
Jo, I would go as far as saying, definitely not TR Leopard female as the pic that has just been posted by Fotomaljohan, the spots on her head between and above the eyes are totally different. (Sorry to disappoint those who are trying to track her and who thought it was her) |

If you will allow me to come in on this thread again, I can say with absolute certainty that this is not Maja the TR leopard! It is simply just too far out of the patolling reach of a leopard at Twee Rivieren to appear here at Nossob!
The Leopard photo in my profile is actually one of Maja's twins, called KRUIPER, taken at the Samevloeiing waterhole on our previous visit to KTP in June 2009. There is a thread on the TR leopard(s) ID's somewhere here on the forum pages and I have posted some photos of Kruiper there! |
