You
You, who think you are king You, who think you are better than the rest You, who think it's okay to step on those under you You, who use and miss use people and think it's right and your right You, who only think of yourself You, who doesn't do unto others like you want to be done to you You, who sleep without worries of what has been done today You, who say without thinking You have broken a soul today............... italj 13/8/2012 |

I have a pair of Cape Robin-chats nesting in a flower-pot on my verandah. They are raising two babies;
Mr and Mrs C Working for Life Sharp: of eye; of beak; of stiff, pointy feathers which are Bright: Of tail; of eye; of tiny active brain working Fast: A hop; a stab; a worm-wriggling flight to start the Nurturing Of huge gapes begging for more; more; more; more. Hi everybody.
This is my first time on the forum. This cominig Saturday will be the annual World Rhino day. Me and my sister wrote this poem about Rhino poaching because it lies very close to our hearts. Unfortunately it is only available in Afrikaans. If there is somebody that would like to translate it for us we will be thankful Kind regards Jeannette Bloedmaan Onder skemering van volle maan word in grasveld ‘n weg van bloed gebaan. |

Elsa wrote . Not sure I would do it justice if I had to try and translate it. I'm also trying to translate it, but as you said its just beautiful in Afrikaans and the English translation does not rime and do it justice. Some words is not so familiar in English, but for those folks who don't understand a word, here goes..... jeannette havenga wrote Bloedmaan Onder skemering van volle maan word in grasveld ‘n weg van bloed gebaan. Blood moon Under the twilight of the full moon Theres a pathway of blood through the grassland. Another attack on our African heritage disappears with statistic in the darkness The sound of another gunshot in the distance Another giant on home soil brutally mutilated. Ax, knife and spear Harnessed to reap off. Rhinos in tall grass, white and black Unaware of the sheltering sorrow. Poachers with gestures of war violence Change a quiet oasis in a blood battlefield. Keep calm with your slumber sleep Ignore the problem you ignorant fool. How much more blood sacrifices must there be For horns that supposedly cure diseases? Seize the day after the bloody moon. Clinched to our rhino's survival. The children of our children deserves a legacy From our gentle giants of the wilderness. |
