We've had a few comments recently about some folks not being able to open Trip Reports because they contain too many photos per page. Please see the =http://www.sanparks.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=589134#p589134, point 4.
So just a gentle reminder that we ask people to stick to a limit of 1000KB of photos per page (a page can contain 15 posts). This works out at about 10-15 photos per page, depending on the size. The forum programming actually prevents you from displaying pictures that are bigger than 800x600 pixels. Should you need to resize them please read here for a basic tutorial or here for a more involved method. Thank you for you consideration. |

That will help, but the problem does not always lie with the author. More comments on TR's will help to sort out this problem too. Usually lots of views but only 5 % comment. Maybe just a

This post explains fully. Thank you for you consideration. Hi Saraf, Just want some clearance on the pic size again. You suggested 66 - 100 KB per photo, but that will not be of great quality and better not to post it at all. Some good quality pics on TRs are about 700 KB so that means if you want to post good quality only two pics per page. I normally aim for 200 - 300 KB, which will then be only 3 - 5 pics per page. |

Son Godin,
These were the guidelines we were given from the technical people. However this was quite a few years ago so I'll get the mods to check again and see if the servers have been beefed up in the interim. Good point about the comments, I for one am very guilty about reading and not writing. |

I didn't even realise there was a limit.............and not being technical I don't understand sizes etc.
I use medium size on Flickr, so how many should I be posting per page, and is that on top of comments or instead of comments. ![]() |

Val,
A digital photo is a type of file and all files have a size, usually measured in kbs (kilobytes). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a way of looking at the kb size of photos in Flickr (that I've found, I could be wrong). File sizes of photos vary depending on the dimensions of the photo and what level of detail is in the photo so it is hard to give an absolute answer. As a rough guide the medium 500 size on Flickr is around 100kb, so given the current guidelines you could get maybe 10 pictures per page. The guidelines refer to pictures only and not comments. It is because the SANParks server has to download the image from the hosting site (Flickr or Photobucket) first and then display them on its own site and that takes bandwith, which makes it difficult for those with slower connections (narrow bandwith) to display pages with lots of photographs on them. |

I am as in the dark as you Val
![]() but you can open your photo stream and choose a pic right click on it and choose the medium size when its says This photo is All Rights Reserved View all sizes: Medium 500 • Medium 640 • Medium 800 • Large. Right click again on the pic and click on view image info you get size in Kbs and Dimensions. Don't know if that means anything to anyone Certainly not me |

Thanks Dotty. My Internet browser of choice, Chrome, doesn't give me that option.

I usually choose medium 640, but that means nothing to me in actuial size permitted, and how many to post per page Dotty!!
I am on Internet Explorer. However I will be guided by Sara to post about 10 per page and hope that is ok. |

There is a similar option on Internet Explorer.
And we're looking forward to more TRs, Val. |
