Mel, what a beautiful Egret picture :D and I love the colours, the rich red of your Lower Sabie entrance.

Oh dear, I have been so homesick that I have booked a weekend away in this beautiful place. Going next month. 8)

Melph68, I have just read your trip report (all 30 pages of it), just LOVE your photographs and especially the ones of the "roadblocks". I love those types of roadblocks, 1 million times better than the roadblocks we encounter every morning on our way to the office

Gosh, I've been neglecting you and your TR badly...
I'm terribly sorry! But I hope to have more time again
now to read regularly again. (And maybe to get on with my own TR as well. )

Anyhoo, enough of the blabla...

I reckon, you had some very nice sightings!!!
Vultures and a secretary in the road - I would love that!
We hardly ever saw secretaries in Kruger...

I also love the photos of your last installment - great colours.
Incredible what you manage with your 'little' camera!

Ronnie I could barely believe it when I went back through my pics and found that sky photo
I think it is beautiful too

You got some great birds on your drive, I've never seen secretary bird that far south in Kruger before.

We felt very lucky indeed to see that secretary saraf 8) 8)
Our one and only in Kruger over the 2 weeks we were there

I absolutely love your photos  And such a wonderful heron and elly sighting

Thanks for taking the time to catch up on my TR Meerkitty :gflower:
That was our closest biggest ellie, so we were thrilled, especially as he was so relaxed and we could spend some quality time with him

The "African Sky" is awesome! In fact, all your pics are beautiful! :D

Hi hilda :D :D
Despite only glimpsing a lion, we certainly could not complain about that drive
We saw sooooo much and felt so privileged just to be there
Our next day at Lower Sabie was, dare I say it, even better!!

Thank you Pumbaa :gflower:
I'm so glad you are enjoying my TR :D
It seems like Dad and I covered a lot of the same ground you did in February
(except by the time we got there all the cheetah had left the area   )

Hi Richard :D :D
Dad and I were ecstatic when the secretary came out into the open
It's a wonder I even got a photo I was all thumbs with excitement

And lucky lucky you going to Kruger next month!!
Do you think I might be able to squeeze somewhere in the back of WTB?

Hi tent dweller :D :D :D
WOW, thank you so much for jumping on board my TR and catching up on 30 pages!!  :gflower: :gflower:
I totally agree with you about the roadblocks
I appreciated being held up by each and every animal. I felt a part of their world, not our crazy rat race 8) (no offense to the rats  )

Hi lion queen :D :D
Yes, seeing as though our lion sightings were very few and far between, listening to munching was a real thrill for us

Overall, I was really happy with my little camera
Although I reckon I need at least 2 cameras with long lenses next time (plus a "Mel" in the backseat to hand them to me    )

Lower Sabie - Lion Day!!!

Had a terrible "sleep" thanks to noisy neighbours :slap:
So even though my mind was willing, it was getting harder and harder to drag my sleep-deprived body out of bed :?

Nonetheless, we had another full day at Lower Sabie and lions to find!!

Not far out of the gate we had our first roadblock for the day :D
Image
Image

We didn't mind the hold up at all
The baboons were very entertaining and who could not go "Awww" at the cute baby baboons :D
Image
Image

But then we felt a "thud" on the car, followed by a "thunk", and OMW we had baboons swinging from the rear window!!
Image

Well, that woke me up better than a strong coffee!!

Next we saw a fish eagle 8)
Image

And then we headed for the S28 in the hope of finding cats

It started off very quiet :? Not even the usual usuals? :hmz:

We stopped to photograph this warthog 8)
Image

But then what was that ahead?
Lots of cars and…..joy of joys, exactly as we had hoped for, a lion walked out of the tall grass onto the road!!!
And he was walking right towards us!!!
Image

There was a line of cars following him, but we were the only car facing him
Image

Our Kruger lion sightings were few and far between so these are precious precious memories 8) 8) 8)
Image

As he neared our car...
Image

He looked right at us! If looks could kill
Image

I like this image because you can see the pads of his front paw – very impressive!
Image

After another 100m he left the road and headed off into the bush, marking his territory as he went.
Image

And then all too soon he was gone….. :(
Image

But WOW WOW WOW

Dad and I were a couple of very happy Aussies :D :D :D :D :D

WOW, Mel!!! What an exciting start into the day!
First the baboons dangling from your car
(Now I know where you learned that trick that you
showed us on Addo Cam  ).
And then a proper big boy coming straight at you.
He does look a bit grumpy though. But who wouldn't
be if one had a lot of rolling tins dragging after you.

Loved your roadblock     Such funny critters, but they can do damage to cars

What a handsome, handsome Lion 8) very, very 8) lovely Mel.
