![]() Many of us will remember the "Custos". It was the official SANParks magazine published from 1971 till 1998. Indeed many of us grew up with this magazine which gave us such wonderful insight in to nature and conservation in our national parks. The complete set is now available on CD. It offers a nostalgic window in to the past, as well as some valuable information and great stories of incidents in our parks. Ideal for every nature lover, researcher or visitor to our parks. Will make an ideal present. Format: 4 cd set. Content in pdf format. Contains an index with search function. Cost R 280.00 postage in South Africa included. Order here: http://www.sanparkshr.org |

Guess it is not available as a download?
4 DVD's is a mere 2.4 GB, or two movies at best. |

I have still got a couple of magazines in my library. The first issue 1971 was a scene at a waterhole with zebra and giraffe coming to drink (If memory serves). The magazine featured a full version of an article in Afrikaans and then an shortened one in English. The next article was full version English and then a shorter one in Afrikaans. I am still in the dark as to why this publication was stopped.

Hi everyone.
I just sent my order through for the Custos box set this morning and I can't wait to start reading it! Thanks to all involved in this great initiative. Just for interest sake I have a few questions: Firstly, does anyone know why the magazine was discontinued? Also, is the current Wild magazine meant to be a substitute which covers the same type of subjects or are the two magazines a bit different in nature? |

I too remember Custos very well. I was a subscriber and I couldn't wait for it to arrive every month. I would curl up with a cuppa and spend a couple of very enjoyable hours transported out of my environment and in to the magical world of the bush.

Those of my age will possibly still remember the monthly National Parks magazine.
The Honorary Rangers have put them on a DVD; details are available at : http://www.sanparksvolunteers.org/custos There you will be able to read about what added to our love for our National park. |

I have received my DVD set this afternoon. Excellent value for money.
Obviously I have not looked at all but what I have seen has brought back wonderful memories and it and was also good seeing many faces who still are familiar to me and also some whom although their time has come. I will never forget. If you are interested in the history of the old National parks Board, here is your opportunity to enrich yourself Thanks to the HR's you have done a monumental task and all for a good cause. |
