Was filmed by an american family Sept 2004 at Transport Dam. The South African male voice heard on the video is a guide from one of the safari company's. This has been viewed over 6 million times already!! Pity the person who filmed it did not send it into 50/50.

I am utterly amazed that he kept his composure and managed such a good overview of the situation. I know that in a similar situation my hands would have been shaking too much to take anything.

Incredible stuff. Just shows you how tough a buffalo can be. Never underestimate them! In some reserves, where lions have never encountered buffalo before, they take quite some time learning how to hunt the giant bovines.

This video clip is getting some great mileage...
Last night it was shown as part of one of America's national news broadcasts -- ABC's World News Tonight.

Hi mja

It was on national radio this morning as well (can you believe they asked if it was a fake  ), and KNPspokesman assisted ABC with their efforts for an interview with the guide who's voice is on the tape...

I must say it's fascinating-I long for the day bandwidth is not such a problem so that more South Africans and SANParks staff can view it...

I heard John Robbie from 702 very briefly saying that they were trying to get hold of the ranger for an interview.
Was that the radio station Di?

The viewership continues to explode in the States - it has now made it onto CNN's website and I've seen it at least twice during their broadcasts this week. Only frustrating thing is that they keep on referring to them a "water" buffaloes -- if only they knew the difference -- last time I checked you can ride a water buffalo
Gotta luv the title of CNN's video -- "Safari Smackdown"

Hi guys,

Not sure if u guys caught up with news regarding "Battle of Kruger" video. Heard on Radio 702 last week that the video had won an international award owing to its sensational footage & number of hits on YouTube. Currently over 27 million hits :D .

William Mabasa of SANPARKS also gave comment on it after news came through.

Any other news on this ?

Wow- I watched the national geographic programme last night on an 8min clip that an American tourist made at kruger at the Transport dam.Lion attacking a buffalo calf which ended in the water.A croc comes along and the lions and croc have a tug of war with the little calf in the middle. The lions win the tug of war and as you think the lions are going to kill the calf the buffalo herd returns and attack the lions. The buffalo chase of the lions and the calf walks free.Amazing footage!

Amazing footage isn't it? 8)

It was filmed at Transport Dam, if you have a look in the Animals forum you'll see a whole topic on it, right at the top.

We have watched this footage over and over on youtube, excellent stuff. So glad the documentary shown in SA. Here in Australia the documentary airs on Foxtel for the first time. ps the hits on youtube now stand at 37 million.

www.downthisvideo.com will save it as a file for you, you may need a different program for viewing it though, like the cccp codecpack.

And there are many other ways to download youtube movies.
