Hello mites
I had an excellent sighting of about 9 male lions on the H7 between orpen and satara as we were exiting the park..couldnt ask for more and it was sad that we had to leave these boys as time was short and we had a long way to travel and could not spend much more time in the park. Does anybody know which pride they come from? Or does this pride have a name? |

These males used to be 11 but 2 were killed by the 6 Matimba males in Manyeleti and were born into the Skybeds/Orpen pride that goes between northern Manyeleti and southern Timbavati.
I know these boys have been spending a lot of time on Ngala in Timbavati and near the Orpen gate area. I've been following their story as much as I can get info on them |

Great sighting, Whipper.
Thanks for the detailed info on them, Jasond; hoping to find them there ourselves when we visit in a few months' time. |

What I sometimes do when I have a chance is to check out sightings reports on place such as Manyeleti etc.
Google "Manyeleti sightings reports" and you will get some interesting information about stuff happening across Kruger's western border. |

I have been keeping sightings reports from Sabi Sands for years and Manyeleti recently and ran across the Skybeds/Orpen pride with 11 sub adult males, who caught my attention and have been keeping up on their lives.
It was reported 2 months back that the 9 Skybeds males entered Manyeleti and had a fight with the 6 Matimba males and killed 1 of the Matimbas and then returned to Timbavati. I don't see them all staying together as they will all want to mate and with that many males their will be lots of tension and fights once they get some females, so there most likely will have some sort of a split in the coalition at some time. |

these 3 males fathered the 9 young Skybeds males that have been seen around Orpen Gate and the Ngala area in Timbavati, does anyone know any history on these 3 males. I know they were dominant over the Skybeds/Orpen pride that's territory included northern Manyeleti and Southern Timbavati also into Kruger near the Orpen area. thanks very much for the help
