Hi there, it looks like a male Mocker Swallowtail to me.

Hi

The first two are of a male spotted joker / tolliegrasvegter / Byblia illithya. The second one is either a common mother-of-pearl / Perlemoenskoenlapper / Salamis parhassus or most probably a clouded mother of pearl / newelperlemoenskoenlapper / Salamis anacardii. They are difficult to identify without an upperside but the brownish colour, as well as the fact that I found a couple when I was there make me go for that one. Its a nice record and normally not easily found or spotted by the general public. Well done!

Would appreciate help with the ID of the following butterflies seen at Nkulu.

Are these perhaps Elfin Skipper?

The first photo is of a small elfin (Sarangesa phidyle), and the next two as well as the last one is of a marbled elfin (Gomalia elma). The tip you have there looks like a female small orange tip (Colotis evagore) but you really need the underside to be sure that it's not a bushveld orangetip (Colotis pallene) female.

Hope this helps!

Great photos Francois! :clap:

I agree with BushSnake's ID's

No 1 – Small Elfin (Klein-kaboutertjie);

No 2, 3 & 5 - Green-marbled Skipper / - Sandman (Asjas-springertjie);
{you got to love the above 2 Afrikaans names :D }

No 4 - Small orange tip (Kleinoranjepuntjie).

The first butterfly looks like Pieris Rapae, Small white Pieris Rapae, (pieridae) to me.

If so...This one is very common in north of europe. Does this one live in SA as well?

Arks, the brown you photographed looks like a silver-bottom brown / Tower-bruintjie / Pseudonympha magus, and the other two butterflies are a cabbage white / Kool-witjie / Pieris brassicae and a garden Acraea / Tuin-rooitjie / Acraea horta. The cabbage white is actually an introduced species from Europe, but is is now found in a very large area in the Western Cape and its range is still rapdily expanding.

Issi, your list is as follows:
1. African Monarch - correct
2. African Common White - correct
3. Small Orange Tip - correct
4. Orange Acraea - Little Acraea or window Acraea. I'm not 100% sure but I would go for a little Acraea.
5. Joker? - Spotted Joker

Your caterpillar looks suspiciously much like the caterpillar of the Roseate Emperor, but I cannot give you a definitive answer on that.
