Anne-marie,

Yes the dark brown eyes turn only yellow at around the age of 3-4 years

During November I was travelling along the H1-3 towards Satara when I saw a commotion next to the road. This juvenile Martial Eagle had just killed a Koorhaan.

Saw this one near Crocodile bridge. I think it's a juvenile Martial Eagle, but a confirmation would be very helpful

Identification Help - Raptors

Unread postby p@m » Thu Apr 08, 2010 3:44 pm

Hi guys -- I have 2 for you today.

This couple were seen on the Auob side, near Urikaruus -- always perched next to each other.
The one, I think, is a rufous or pale form tawny eagle juvenile, but the other looks more like a martial juvenile.

Is it common to find 2 different species together ?

Hi Pam

I think your ID's of these two are correct. I suppose they would gather around waterholes, particularly in the Kalahari. I have seen Lanners, Gabars and Red necked Falcons in the same tree in KTP.

Cheers

Niall.

@ RosemaryH... that looks to me like a juvenile Martial Eagle if I am not mistaken... not a very common sighting for that area so well done...
