Generally Biyamiti is in a great game area, but wild dog and cheetah are not readily in the vicinity, the terrain is against them. MM has given you good advice. Leopard, lion & rhino are their speciality.

When you say which side is better, are you referring to the approach from east and west, the east approach is far better, it is only 4 km (as against 18) and has far less ups and downs. If not, the road is narrow, so drive where you want to when you can see ahead.

Sunset or night ride would be best. They might only offer one of them, but there is nothing except money stopping you from doing both. You can do a (self drive) morning ride yourselves.

Biyamiti is nice, very nice, the road is very scenic, I saw a lot of Rhino (white rhino). The river was empty, maybe now there is some water.
About maintenance.... when I was here 2 years ago all, almost all was new... now everything is old, worn, lacking attention, a lot of small details that could be improved and make the stay still more pleasant... it's shame the place is so beautiful, but I have spend 3 wonderful nights. I don't know yet if in 2 years..... depend of the maintenance ...

Yes, Biyamiti is really great.
We were there september this year and we had 3 leopards on the road on the west side of the camp. 2 half way and 1 very close to the camp. And south from Biyamiti indeed a large pack of wild dogs.

the s108 is a small road connecting the s25 with the h5 only 2km long.

I have noticed a disturbing trend in some of the trip reports and general comments in the forums. As far as I knew, the access road to Biyamiti is for RESIDENTS only and the entrance to that access road has a sign prominently displaying that fact. I have read in a few trip reports of people using the road even though they arent residents. It seems like even some of the people on the forums that know and advocate the rules are still bending them to suit themselves.

I could be completely wrong of course. I could have missed the fact that this road is now open to the general public. If that is the case, I humbly apologise and it will be my 1st port of call in December!!

I just stayed there a week or so ago. The road is still definitely (supposed to be) for residents only.

Had a great week at Biyamiti - saw buffalo, elephant and rhino nearly every day from the lodge. Our friends were up half an hour earlier than us and saw wild dog running along the far side of the river.

Malelane camp is also supposed to be private - but folk constantly wander in 'to look around' and sometimes even to picnic and/or use the ablutions.

What amuses me is that folk then decide it is a nice quiet camp and come to stay - and one of the first things they do is complain about non-residents disturbing the peace by coming into camp!!!!!!

I have travelled the Biyamiti road once - going to the camp to take binoculars to one of the guides, and even then did not wander around the camp itself. If I wanted to travel the road to see what the camp looked like I would call the manager and ask permission first. Common courtesy really...... and if I wanted to go to any of the other private camps in Kruger I would do the same.

If you book in a private camp you want to be away from the buzz of normal camps. You go to private camps to enjoy the bush in its full, not with people running around and making noise. And MONEY has nothing to do whith it. Where other poeple go for 5 days to the normal camp, you only go for 3 days. Its your choise and you work for your money and only you can decide how to spend it!!!!!! I do believe some roads in the kruger shoul be PRIVATE.

I believe that Biyamiti's private road is part of the bush camp's attraction. Indeed if the road is opened up people would soon like to stop at the camp for a leg stretch, to use the restrooms (which they don't have) and it wont be long before there are demands for a restaurant. Just as the private concession areas of Singita, Lukimbi and Mpanamana are out of bounds for non-residents, the same applies to Biyamiti.

.......and some other camps like Balule, Malelane, Tsendze......they just do not have facilities to cope with extra folk treating them like public toilets! And guests book there specifically to enjoy the peace of a camp without other visitors dropping by.

9 days till we arrive at Biyamiti!! What gate do you recommend we enter at? There are so many options: Numbi, Phabeni and Paul Kruger the furthest and then malelane and closest croc bridge. Since all three can be done because we are planning on arriving near the middle of the day. Which one of the roads has the best wildlife and the best scenery and will provide the best start to your Kruger holiday? Thanks

my own preference would be malelane then you have a choice of S114 and approach biyamiti from the west on the private road,or you could take the S25 croc river road then enter biyamiti from the east either way hope you have plenty of great sightings enjoy.

Here's one suggestion: Enter via Malelane, travel up to Afsaal for lunch along the H3 in case the wild dog are on the main road. (Take a peek at Renosterpan en route) Then turn left out of Afsaal and soon after, left onto the H2-2 down to James waterhole. Just after that, turn left onto the S118 to Gardenia hide (wild dogs also like this area)Then turn left again onto the Croc river road. I cant remember how far along it is, but there is a great view site on the right - a small road that leads to the edge of the river - worth stopping there. Then turn left onto Biyamiti private road. By now it should be getting on towards evening. This four km is a very swoopy road; keep an eye out for elephant going down to drink, also leopard.

*If you arrive early, you could do the loop round Berg-en-Dal - one of the more scenic areas.
