Sprocky,
I agree with JenB, it's a Imm. Martial Eagle. The brown markings on the hind neck distinguish it from Crowned. Very obvious Orbital rim is typical for Eagles if you can't see the feathered legs. The pale form Wahlberg's has a yellow cere and smaller beak.

Hi Jen,
It's the bone socket(orbit) which forms part of the skull and keeps the eyes in place. In this case the Superior(top) outside edge(eyebrow), is very prominant and gives the fierce appearance..

wingman,
Martial Eagle (juv) - overall pale with fine baring on tail and underwing, no markings on the legs and some brown markings around the hind neck.

Many thanks, those are the exact birds i had put them down as. It just goes to show that having kept track of the ID help/needed threads and the bird challenge I was able to ID both birds within seconds of seeing them just from what i have learnt reading these threads. many thanks to all who give their time to these endless requests it is greatly appreciated.

Hi All,

Took a burst of pics of this Martial Eagle not far from Skukuza in June. Have layered them together to make this image of the bird swooping down from it's perch.
