Checking Otter Trail availability online

Unread postby sean.tucker » Wed Nov 11, 2009 9:25 pm

I'm trying to check the availability of the Otter Trail online, but when I click on the "Check Availability" button at http://www.sanparks.org/parks/tsitsikam ... /otter.php, then I get a page that shows me the availability of the Storms River Mouth Rest Camp. Am I just being silly, and is that an indication of the availability for the whole trail? Or is it just for that Rest Camp?

Hi Sean

I think you are looking at the correct page. The Otter departs from there, and is given as a booking under the rest camp. You will notice that there are two huts. Each sleeps six if I remember correctly.

As long as I've been using the Sanparks website (2 years+), I thought one could check Otter trail availability over the phone only. Which is a bit of a pain in my opinion :)

It can't be done otherwise. Those booking are not made online, so the database is not filled with availability.
The same goes for bookings for wheelchair friendly units, those are offline till about a month before the date. After that they are added to the database for bookings by anyone.

May I inquire as to why this is the case?
