2004 if my memory serves me well, 7 different predators at Nossob waterhole in 7 evening.
BBJ, AWC, lion(about 5 different lots!), brown & spotted hyena, Cape & bat eared fox.
2007 the ranger told some of my party to come away from the fence in the camping area because the king of the jungle was eyeing them rather fondly from 3 metres away on the other side of the fence. The fence is just a 'token' and will not withstand a charge by a full grown Kalahari lion.

Nice post & images!

We've also had some sort of bird (owl) nest inside our cabin (underneath the roof or so) at Kieliekrankie, keeping us awake the whole night! No image but keen to know what kept us awake... At Bitterpan some bats exercising inside the (small) hut, also very funny! Outside (in the morning) at the Bitterpan the lions below. And at Gharagab we did see a female + 4 cubs drinking but no great pictures though.

The lioness is missing the tip of her tale as far as I can see, will give it a try with Photoshop :-)

I camped right up against the fence in front of the waterhole at Mata Mata in March 06 and one night at about 11pm was about to fall asleep when I heard what sounded like animals drinking...I got out of the tent and was nervously but excitedly staring at 5 LARGE lions drinking being illuminated by a bit of moonlight. A few minutes later it was all over but how surreal that moment was!
I wanted to wake everyone up in camp to call them but it was late so cherished the sighting to myself!

Hi lebrob,
We all drive up and down the roads of KTP and see an assortment of wildlife. But, as the other people in this thread have experienced, sometimes there is something that really stands out. For me ("Four Hours In KTP"), that night in November 2008 was it. Imagine spending only one night in Kalahari Tented Camp and Mother Nature decided that that night she would put on a show.
It started with the Camp Supervisor explaining the dos and don'ts. Then mentioning the hyenas as being pests but also saying that he hasn't seen them in a number of days. Yea, right. Anyway, to witness animal behavior in its element was something I won't forget. With the hyenas killing another animal near me is an act of nature but not something I'd like to see repeated.

Sightings from inside camps...We visited kgalagadi transfrontier park in dec08 / jan 09

We were very excited to see 7 lions at the nossob waterhole on our one night stay at nossob. We also had about 6 or 7 jackel outside our door that night. We stayed there for one night on our way through to Mpoathutlwa pan camp site...

Thats when our experiance began. We had a BIG male, 3 females and 8 cubs sharing our campsite for the 4 nights and 5 days that we were there. Every time we had a shower or washed dishes they would come and drink the water from the blocked drain. During the day they would move off about 20m away and wait for us to shower or wash dishes.. Within 3 minutes the females would bring the cubs to drink, or drink the water themselves..At night they would come and play with whatever they could get there teeth into...We also had lots of jackel in the camp. i think they were following the lions around.
All i kept thinking was that in the 5 days that we were there, they hadnt been on a hunt or moved away from the camp site to look for food. I hope the people that come to that campsite after us werent there first meal....

Hi madparks! Welcome to the forum!
Quite an exciting (and nerve racking)experience you had!

Our Dec2008 trip:
Nossob - lions just on the other side of the fence.
Grootkolk - lions camped outside our unit for one night(so a 2 bed unit became a 4 sleeper), brown hyena, bat eared fox, springhare.
Urikaruus - 11 lions at the waterhole, bat eared fox, and genet!
MM - lioness at waterhole, and big male seen from camp.

This pride spotted at the Mata Mata camp waterhole at 5:30pm on 24 October 2009. Note that each lion is cautiously watching whilst drinking.

On the evening of the 14th of october 2009 we were sitting in the hide near the waterhole in Nossob camp.
Suddenly there was a small spotted genet in the tree near the hide and he was hunting insects.
For over half an hour we enjoyed the quick movements of this little cat.

Nov 2007 Urikaruus - Giraffe & 2 Spotted Hyaena
Aug 2008 Urikaruus - Cheetah (Mother and cub) Giraffe Family
March 2009 Urikaruus - Leopard casually after drinking at waterhole walked passed our chalets
March 2009 Nossob - Genet in tree above us watched us braai and the same night we had 7 Lions all lying against the main entrance gate (some very nervous people trying to leave the hide) and then for the next hour or two they patrolled the fence looking at the morsels in the cage - well that is what it felt like.
6 more sleeps and we will be back in KTP with yellow ribbon flying - hoping for more sightings.
