Insight into the small world to aid environmental education in the WCNP
Morné Botes, representing Leica and SMM Instruments (Pty) Ltd., presented a Leica EZ4 Stereomicroscope to the Honorary Rangers Environmental Education team of the West Coast National Park at their headquarters on Tuesday 15th September. The device has a 4.4:1 zoom for entry level university and college courses such as biology, anatomy and chemistry and provides over 20 years of bright LED illumination which saves time and cost of replacement bulbs. The 7-way LED illumination system provides incidental, oblique and transmitted light for high quality illumination and contrast of any application. The built-in Greenough optical system provides a 3 dimensional view of the sample. The HR educational team believes in the philosophy of Baba Dioum, who said: "In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will only love what we understand, we will understand only what we are taught.". How can you protect the environment without understanding it? This is what the Geelbek Environmental Education Centre in the West Coast National Park strives to achieve.
Due to the hard sponsor-seeking work of HR Colleen Smith and the generosity of Leica/SSM, students will have a deeper understanding of the environment. Studying the small creatures will aid them in seeing "the big picture."
Thank you Leica/SMM! Your generosity will help our team succeed.
