I have just returned from the Getaway show where I found this book.

It is highly recommended

If, like myself, you are curious about the names of places, the trees, the history of different areas, this is a must.

Each page, all 251 of them, cover a different zone, or deal with a specific topic. It is an invaluable "Kruger for dummies guide. I can say without hesitation, that this will be as important as a toothbrush on my future trips. You might manage without it, but you will feel the discomfort.

In addition to being an invaluable book, many of our forumites have added value by giving permission for the use of their photographs. Another forumite has assisted in identifying trees and other plants.

The right hand side of the book is gives a detailed map, while the left hand side an explanation of all the vegetation or trees, plus wonderful illustrations.

You can order it by going to www.petersguide.co.za, or by contacting tamsyn@petersguide.co.za.

I will be honest in saying that I had decided not to spend any money at the show and left my credit card at home. (I have to pay for a triple challenge trip) After browsing through the book, I was off like a bullet to draw money and add it to my collection.

I was also fortunate enough to meet the author and enjoy his and his SO's enthusiasm for a short while. In actual fact, he signed it for Meandering Mouse. 8)

Will this be available in the park shops do you think or will we have to look at bookstores for it? Could be a good profit maker for the parks.

Bought the KTP book at the show. Very interesting and will obviously take it when we go there next May. The snippets of history and explanation of place names is wonderful.

Peter signed it for us, which makes it a bit more special.

Hi Meandering Mouse,
Thanks for the great comments. You have been true to your word. The book is available in KNP but is sold out in some outlets. The concessionaire is rather slow in re-ordering!
Regards

I will have a look too, thanks MM. Unfortunately it is not available in Germany  . By the way Peter Derichs did a Kruger and Kgalagadi E-guide as well.

I received a copy of Derich's KTP from a private Swiss library today. (Thanks Micetta!!!)

And I thought some pics might be a good idea to post some pics so you get an idea of what to expect when you buy the book. Plus, I looked for it in every bookstore last time I was in SA and my search would have been a lot easier, if I had know what the book looks like.

The KNP version is pretty similar.

Hi,
Thanks for posting the pictures. I don't want to violate the no advertising rule on the forum. If you need more info please Google Peter's Guide.
I'm going to write a third guide, for the Augrabies Falls National Park. I will be starting my research in April.
Regards
Peter
