We were on a evening drive near Urikaruus, when we saw this beautiful animal, the African Wild Cat. She stayed for a long time with us and got used to our car. When an other car came, she disappeared but after the car was gone, she came back to us until we had to leave her because of the time. It was a great meeting with this beauty.

My best sighting of an African Wild Cat was in Kalahari. it was 1998 we stayed on a waterhole. We stood there for round about 30 minutes. We saw nothing except the normal stuff like Springboks... . We stood underneath a tree Then i watched up in the tree and there it was a beautifull African Wild cat. we stood there and just watched. It was great, because it was a big surprise for us to spott this animal during day time.

Sorry but Springbok is not nothing, it's one of Kgalagadi's most beautiful animals. :naughty:

We saw an AWC on our KNP-trip in 2005 near Satara and again now in June (Sunset Drive Satara)
Will post pics soon...

My SO actually has been to KNP (or any game reserve) only twice and has seen AWC both times! What a statistic!

Nico, I have to agree with you. They are such neat little animals. Earlier this year, on the farm, I was sitting in the veld with a fallen tree at my back and tallish grass in front of me, and the springbok came grazing up to about 15 meters from me, totally oblivious of my presence. you should have seen their reaction when I started talking to them!

Hi

I agree with you and Nico Springbooks are beautifull animals and not "nothing", but you have to agree with me, when you see nothing except Springboks und Blue Wildebeest then this animlas are normal sightings and not a very big Highlight. I shold have used a better orthographie to avoid Missunderstandings.

We saw one in July 2009 just before gate closing time just outside Singwedzi. Unfortunately, because of bad light, we haven't got a clear picture.

While staying at Satara in September we saw 5 AWC on our night game drive. One was just a few meters from the front gate, ran across the road and into the short grass on the south side. It stopped long enough for all to see, but is was too dark for photos. The others were all on the S100. We also saw one on a night drive from Letaba. We had the good fortune to see genet, civet, cerval, Leopard, Cheetah (8 at once) and of course Lion, while in Kruger. My wife is a Veterinarian who specialises in Felids, so we really enjoyed all of the cats.
Last year in KZN we got a pretty good view of a female, who seemed annoyed by our presence, but stayed long enough for photos.

I just found this thread and enjoyed all of the great photos of AWC's. Thanks everyone!

Posted this in August 2007 and completely forgot about it. Saw a few in Kgalagadi and was able to get this pic during our trip in December 2007.

Nice pic Johann,

A very beautiful AWC, she really blends in with her surroundings, another reason it is hard to see them!
