Belgians ALLWAYS behave well... dutchies on the other hand...

We saw a LOT of people outside their vehicles (NOT in the designated picnic/view points). Most just leaning their binoculars on the roof. Besides the tourists from the bus, we did not see anyone walking off the road. At one point a man and woman were walking in the road with no vehicle in sight...I don't know where they parked. I presume in the picnic area overlooking the Atlantic ocean.

I believe that the reason for staying in your vehicle (amongst others) is that strange shapes, movement and noise scare the animals ?



We enjoyed ourselves immensely !! Especially on the one-way roads. The one going up sort of looks like something for a 4x4, so very few sedans seem to go there, so those roads were very quiet. The quality of the road also forces you to drive extremely slow (for a Polo). Driving slow = much more to see !

I am the senior ranger in charge of the Postberg section of the West Coast National Park. First of all, thank you very much for visiting the West Coast National Park and the interest you are showing in protecting our beautiful environment.

I am sorry to only hear about this incident of the Hylton Ross bus now (was informed by Tony T). During flower season we have at least 4 rangers on duty in Postberg alone. During the day we try and do at least 2 or 3 patrols of the entire flower route and if needed, do more patrols during the weekend. Unfortunately there are times when we do miss incidences such as the Hylton Ross bus and so we ask other visitors to report this to the entrance gate to Postberg so that rangers can respond.

We do allow visitors to stand next to the road and take photographs but people walking in the veld and trampling flowers is unacceptable. So in future I please ask that incidents like these get reported to the rangers on duty immediately. Your help in this regard is greatly appreciated.

I will be visiting the WCNP more frequently in future (in a months time even my wedding photos will be taken there ).

If ever I witness something like this again , I will most definately report it at the gate.

Saturday, we spent another 2 to 3 hours inside Postberg after the incident and by the time we exited, it did not even cross my mind.

Ranger CG, is there a phone number people could report misdemeanours to while they are still going on, rather than at the gate several hours later?

I shall be in the park on Friday, and will report any problems I see, though hopefully it won't be necessary.

Is there perhaps a phone number that we can use to phone to report any transgressors? Similar to the emergency number that KNP prints on the permits?

If you want to report incidents in the West Coast National Park, please phone: 022 772 2144. During the week you will reach our reception at the Main offices in Langebaan and during weekends the calls will be directed to the Langebaan entrance gate which can then contact rangers to respond.
