One of the best bird sightings and closest of a raptor:

We took this series of pics of a Fork-tailed Drongo attacking a Martial Eagle in Kruger in May this year.

Drongos are quite cheeky. We have seen then attacking a tawny eagle.

They keep away from the business end, the claws.

Does anybody know an explanation for the behaviour of the Drongo?
Is he afraid the eagle could harm his nest :hmz:
I don´t believe a martial eagle is to impressed if a Drongo tries to mob him!
Anyway, a brave and interesting appearance :?

No, but it seems they might be protecting a nest or have a death wish

Yes, we also wondered what the reason for the attack was and I guess it could be that they just have a general dislike of big raptors because of their ability to destroy the young in a next.
Not sure if Drongos breed year round?
We did look around for a possible nest but could not find anything.

Thanks for the comments and I must add I used the royal "we" but in reality Klystron took the series of pics.

Looks like a juvenile Martial Eagle.

Beautiful pic, Sprocky!
