TheunsH, I can't agree wiht you more! If I could do it over, wiht the knowldge I've got now, I'll make a number of different decisions. Just yesterday I thought that I actuallly need a career change, but at 45 with a wife and kids... :tongue:

You are never to old to do something different with your life.
Regardless that your married and have kids one is never to "old" to do something else and especially something that you really like doing.

I agree with Michel
there is never a better time than the present. Even if you cant work in a park full time get involved. Join Honorary rangers or something. Being a Hr is something great to do as a family. Just an idea. :thumbs_up:

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I've always wanted to be a game ranger. And I thinks its time I make that dream come true! I'm currently working in I.T and plan on studying part time toward a Diploma in Nature Conservation through Unisa. Will this be sufficient? What else would I need? :hmz:

Any help whatsoever will be appreciated!

I am at Unisa and suggest that you call the Unisa Contact Centre on 086 167 0411 for all the info on registration etc. You can also call the Head of Department on 011-471-2348. Best of luck with your studies! :thumbs_up:

Welcome to the Forum, Kaveen.

What a wonderful dream you have.

If you want to act as a Field Guide (i.e. taking people on drives/walks etc.), rather than just working with the animals and performing Wildlife Management, you would probably also have to have a FGASA (Field Guides' Association of SA) qualification and Public Driver's Permit.

I'm sure other Forumites will have more info. for you.

Mostly Field Guide since it combines all the things I love, driving in nature, meeting people of all walks of live with one thing in common and just being outside and not stuck in an office.

Still need to have the talk with the SO about it but it's going to happen soon!

hi.
I studied Nat Con through Unisa,FGASA etc. worked for Sanparks for almost 7years. doing my B-tech this year then going back to the sticks. It is defnitely not as glamorous or romantics as in the movies but Iwon't do anything else.Good luck. nothing is impossible!i did it you can too. :thumbs_up:
