I bought myself a secondhand Tasco Telescope recently, to look at the stars etc.

I have no experience whatsoever, but something seems strange to me.

When I look through it during daytime, all objects seems to appear upside down  :hmz:

I changed the lens with some others I got with the deal, but still, no improvement.??

Can anyone explain why this is, or does it have to be like that?

Thank you,

Feeling really :wall:

Astronomical telescopes don't have prisms to invert and reverse the image as do binoks and spotting scopes . Astronomers just learn/adjust their brains , to see the heavens reversed as do the star charts .

BTW your mirror also has a reversed image (but not inverted) , and you have learned to shave and brush your hair (but not read) from this image .

A basic physical science textbook on optics will explain all this .

Thank you MikeV,

That helps a lot. So there is nothing wrong with it then.

Ok  Nice reading

But now's the questions WHERE does one start looking for stars etc.???

What is a focus point to start from when exploring the stars? Becuase I tried it aswell, it is very difficult to pinpoint a certain place/start and to find it?

ANy tips?

Is there no "viewing tube", whatever it's called attached to it so you can aim? Like a telescopic sight on a gun?

Usually you look up.

I think it's called a spotter scope, DQ.
Or you can get a nice motorized computerized thingie which plugs into your laptop and will find the stars for you. I have no idea how it works and I can't afford one either.

Where are the clever okes?
Deeftes!! :yaya:

Jip, the scope is there. I meant like orientation point. Surely, there scope must be 'configured'?

Ja, nee.... wag!

Gamespottertjie, this is what you need:
1. Beeeg tin of black paint.
2. A moon and stars stencil
3. Some silver paint with glitter.
4. A new lock for your bedroom door to keep your mother out.

Getting back to the point:
Why are you discussing Sawubona's scope? I had the first claim on it?
