 Have seen them there and on the S28. They seem to like that area.

This animal sounds so common but i can never seem to find it :hmz:

IMO i think that the Jackal population in KNP is going down...

I always used to hear Black Backed's calling every night before i went to bed and now i hear none.... :hmz:

Agree with you, Batmad.

Black-backed don't compete with SSJ, though!

Rather other reasons! :hmz:

That's what I've been thinking recently too! I used to average three to five sightings a trip, now if I see one, I'm doing good. I have also been thinking the same about cheetah and lion?? Just me, or a well-kept secret of the Park staff? I mean, wouldn't want to alarm the overseas visitors, now would we? Or perhaps I'm just plain wrong???

Can an adult side-striped ever be confused with a juvenile black-backed? I know size is probably diagnostic, especially the muzzle; but I have been confused on a couple of occasions when the stripe seemed clear down the side, but then a rudimentary saddle-back may have been present too! Any opinions please ...

Debateable , would a juvenile be seen without an adult in its company ?
