point is doesn't matter where it was caught, SA catfish and carp and trout where brought over by the british a few centuries ago. if the can get that big in wales, they can get near that here aswell(with the right conditions of course)

You are quite right,Joekin, they can get big here as well.I can now safely
claim that what Leah and I and the folks from Germiston saw, was a
wale(sic) of a fish,the monster of the N'wanetsi!!! :D

wish you could have gotten a pic...

you should see in pilansbeg there is this hide on a island, you cross a bridge and as matter of interest i spat in the water, i'd say about 50 catfish came up to try and gulp the "food" amazing to see hundreds of whiskers protruding from the water

Found this little cat fish (Barbel) splashing about in what was a fast diminishing rain water puddle in my driveway. It was barely 100mm in length.

Now what fascinates me about this little animal is that it was nigh 800metres from any life sustaining water source for it to survive. It is a known fact that catfish can cover vast distances on dry land. We have many predators that may have snatched it up and dropped. However this is not where it ends.

Some years back we had a similar incident but with common river crabs. They were dashing all over the tar road. Must be a kilometre from the water.

And some years before that I actually found a terrapin at the gate. 600 metres from the water.

Is this a signal of some kind, indicating some natural calamity?

All the species you have mentioned are known for their ability to travel.

It is not at all strange to find terrapin many kilometres from water, especially on a rainy day.

Why do they move?

Well maybe to reach a better habitat, or maybe to get out of some sort of danger?
