Yeah Madach, Addo is standing up in the company of the big boys. Your photos prove it. I had my best ever wildlife sighting there in Sept 2007 - the birth of a red hartie.

Very true, Addo is indeed standing up in the company of the big boys!

Here's some more pics from my lion sightings and one hyaena picture. The male lions are Nossob and Kalahari (at least that's what I've been told). They had a bit of a dispute a couple of days earlier and that is how the one lion (Nossob) hurt his nose.

I looked up the sighting on my GPS just now and it was actually a lot closer to that waterhole. It was exactly 1.2km south of Marion Baree.

Excellent pics - Madach, and the Addo animals all look so healthy too.

Thanks for sharing with us

Really amazing photos. Some people just have the eye for a really great shot. I was in Addo last way back in 2002. No lions there then but we had my alltime favourites - meercats. Quite a few sightings but no good pics - digital cameras were sort of not so good then. At that time there were stories and programmes about a group of Meercats called Kevin and his gang. Perhaps yours are descendants! (Kevin was one cheecky character)

Thank you Madach!
I'm waiting for the caracal!

Don't get too excited about the Caracal shot. It was only a fleeting sighting, but I did get some shots of its bum.

Thank you very much for this report Madach.
I only saw it over the weekend and didn't had time to reply.
As you can see, I'm going to Addo in 38 days and I can only dream of sightings like yours. We will be doing a nightdrive for the first time so hopefully this will increase my chances of seeing a Caracal. Believe me, I will take a bumshot any day as proof.

I must admit that my sightings this time were very, very good. To increase your chances of good sightings enter the park the moment the gates open. The earlier you drive the better your chances are of seeing lion, caracal and hyaena. In the daytime you'll see lots of elephants and buffalo but to see the cats you have to get up early. All of our major sightings, except the meercats, were early in the morning...

Hi madach,

The male lions you photographed are Nossob and Bitterbal. They had a fight with Kalahari and Tsama close to the turn off from the main camp road towards Domkrag. One of the game drive guides saw all four of them there the one morning and then a researcher saw Nossob and Bitterbal there the following night with the new injuries to Nossob.

Don't worry Madach.
It was the same for me: I only took 2 pics of the caracal bum last February! But it's possible to see the haired ear as well, if you look very carefully!

I've been busy with all kinds of things the last couple of weeks but editing my pictures was unfortunately not one of these things  I've finally found some time to continue sorting through my Addo pictures so here is a new installment!

For me Hapoor waterhole is one of the best places in South Africa to photograph elephants. This trip Hapoor did not disappoint. Each morning around 10am herd after of herd of elephants came to drink at Hapoor. Here's a compilation of images made at Hapoor waterhole over a period of three days.
