Almost all the rules were here from day one.
Like no. 8
Unfortunately we have to apply this rule from time to time.
8. We are striving to create a friendly forum that is open to people of all ages and convictions. Keep the tone of your message or personal message (PM) civil. Personal attacks, cursing, abrasive, rude or vulgar language, pornography, adult jokes, hate speech, racism, sexism, insulting or generalizing about other cultures, provoking mudslinging, religious or political exchange, scolding, bullying, berating, making fun of, or otherwise harassing of other members online will not be tolerated! In addition, if you have nothing good to say, don't say it!

Surely the forum is not about inter personal issues?!!
General chit chat can be interesting and fun - but I agree we need mods not to let that get out of hand.
What do they stay? Stick to the issue and don't get personal
:P
I like rule no 8

Hey folks, not berating the mods, they are doing just fine(well mostly  )

But this thread is about true feelings on the forum is it not. but, I also think that, dishing out=taking it, nobody is bigger than the forum and nature itself, keep personal beliefs, not nature/Sanparks related to yourself etc.

Don't attack, complain, without knowing the facts, have fun, & yes, this is a virtual forum, very few peeps know who or what the other is, think about that next time you act against a specific person in any way. 8)

& Lastly, I have met good friends, friends I hope to have till doomsday, & interesting people, but just don't be here to fill your time, take the plunge, come to SA & enjoy SANPARKS.

I have been part of this Forum just over 2 years now. I have learnt so much, not just in respect of conservation, the passion and love that other forumites shown for nature and its animals, or debates on issues that might be a threat to our love and passion, but i also learnt how to deal with my own feelings regarding all above.

There's more positives than negatives about this forum. We are a global community, with different backrounds, languages and in many cases one can't truely express yourself in English as it would have been in your own language, and its then that sometimes people misunderstood your true meaning.

Rules are needed in all walks of life and must be enforced sometimes, by the Mods on this Forum, to ensure a friendly, civilized Forum without any chaos. Sometimes its better to first re-think a post than to post blindly...

I joined the forum because I have a great appreciation for SA and its wildlife and as many people ask me about both, almost every day, I thought I would be able get greater knowledge about the parks on the forum.

As many people asking the questions do not speak English, I also thought I could bring up the questions and problems these people ask or have about coming to the parks, on the forum.

I joined this forum to bore others to death ... then I thought ... how about pushing my own agenda, and not allowing others to differ from me ... maybe I should make sarcastic remarks and always shout that I am being belittled and others are being given preferential treatment while I am being handled unfairly.

Then they made me a mod!

 Imberbe! I joined quite a few other forums out of curiosity mostly. Most I honestly don't even remember my password for. I got so frustrated with forums with no structure, no rules, no mods and anything goes that I dumped them. Besides this one there is one other I do return to but rarely post in as it's about Africa in general. It has mods and a kudu system with strict rules about posting. Sound familiar? I'd rather have a mod looking over my shoulder than opening a post and it's some rubbish spam or really rude language. SANParks forum is my preferred home. 8)

:hmz:

The reason I am still on the forum:

I joined the forum about 2 years ago and have in that short time made a lot of friends that continue to be very good friends even if they are not on the forum anymore. I have realized in the short time I was here that this is not an average day to day forum. No, this forum has a lot of emotion. It sort of comes alive at times and it can consume you whole.

When most of my friends left the forum I was very sad. My biggest worry was that I was not going to enjoy the forum anymore. I then realized that it was not friends that drew me to this place, but rather my love for nature and in particular the Kruger National Park.

My posting has significantaly dropped the last couple of months as I personally feel that a lot of fun was removed from the forum. There is too much seriousness on the forum atm that it puts me off a bit and I quote from a very popular movie "Why so serious my son" (Joker voice).

I still read all the posts on a day to day basis, and will voice my opinion where I feel I can contribute.

I love this forum, but some days it can bring some sadness too as I miss some of my friends dearly, even though we still see each other in real life, it was still the gathering place for us where we used to laugh.

The forum is bigger than any person, and will continue to thrive and produce interesting topics, conversations and debates. I will always hang around and watch in the shadow's, waiting for that moment to pounce on an unsuspecting victim

As far as the Mods go. I believe that you have the best intentions at heart for this forum. You do hard work in the background, and I salute you for that, but please do not forget what made this forum into what it is today.

I 100% agree with you Dotdan. I have joined the forum nearly a year ago and my day isn't complete if i havn't visited the forum atleast 10 times a day. I usually start my laptop in the mornings when i get to work and while downloading my e-mails i logg onto the forum and start reading.

I can spend hours on the forum without realizing it sometimes. I also noticed that some people disapeared from the forums and when i ask the question it was deleted by the mods. Yes we make friends and we will always miss them. All your input will also be missed but i'm sure a lot of the people will agree with me that we are glad that you also haven't left the forum.

I have learned so much in this past year from people like yourselve and a lot of others that i'm so thankfull the forum has people like you. But it also makes me sad to see people leave and to see people not contributing as much as they did before. Please don't let things get you down.

Let us all stand together and make this forum a place that every person in the world wants to be a member off.
