Always had pretty adequate meals at the restaurant, would not expect very fresh and crispy salads there, and all their fish would be frozen, and transported more than 1200kms. Stick to their meat and basic vegetable dishes.

We were a party of 8, 6 of the party being first time visitors - everybody felt the same..... First visit was in 2005 and no improvement in 2007 so have made the choice to self-cater - will perhaps try again sometime in the future......
Thanks very much everyone. I understnd the location is challenging, but previously I have always thought that they made nothing of the assets they did have- the basic at the most expensive, and then could not even bother to do anything re presentation. But I am glad to hear that they have great vension pie. After all, there is a lot one can do with the stuff they do have. I just cannot wtand that grated carrot covered in Orange Juice that you seem to get all over the Kalahari and namibia - particularly unpleasant. We usually do all our own catering, but it would be nice to eat out one night just for the sake of not haveing to prep everything.
We normally eat in the restaurant when we stay at TR.
The food is not great, but bearing in mind the location it is good. I had the pork wheels the last time I was there (in Feb) and it was good. My wife is a vegetarian - (so the meat dishes are a bit difficult for her!) but they have a vegetarian dish which is always good.
We will continue to eat there on our way in and out of the park. It has become a bit of a tradition.

Hi Bentony, I ate in TR in November, 2008 and enjoyed a very tasty ostrich dinner. Breakfast was as it should be with all meals served pleasantly and quickly. My only complaint were the restaurants at Mata Mata and Nossob. By the way, I've learned what sarmies are and just when I thought I knew everything--what is skilpadjies?
