Thanks.

Will the Nossob be dry in April?

I see on SA topographics maps that the border triple point are som 800 meters north of where the road ends.

Can you walk further north along the NA fence?

Jesper

I've only seen the Nossob river once flowing with water. Thisa only happens after long torrential rains and only once in a decade. In the rain season will be at the end, but the Kgalagadi is unpredictable. I.e. this year there was rain in august. That's total dry season.

Yep, but that's Bots territory and there's a sign that you aren't allowed to cross the border. But that makes no sense anymore since it's a transfrontier park.

Hope this helps.

Hi jesniel and welcome to the forum.

The Nossob river is a dry river bed -- it flows, on average, only once in a decade !

You can get out and walk around the boards, but the Namibian side is fenced.

Hi Jesniel!! welcome to the forum. Just remember if you stay in Nossob its 140 km to unions end. So it is a lot to travel in one day ( 280 km). I did it in April 2008 and for the distance it is not worth it!!!

I'll be in the KTP in May 2009, hope you enjoy your stay.

Hi Jesper and Welcome!

And thanks to bert for posting the link to my trip report.

Yes, you definitely CAN travel to Union's End in a sedan, and I disagree with Shakeyjakes, because altho it is a long trip from Nossob (far better to stay at Grootkolk and travel to Union's End from there), I personally feel that it is very much worth it. I suppose it depends on what you expect, but I find the remoteness of Union's End most compelling, as well as being at the juncture of three countries. And I made the trip from Nossob (before there was the Grootkolk option) in 1992 and it was one of the most memorable parts of that visit.

So definitely DO travel to Union's End in April. I'm sure you'll be glad that you did! Have a great trip!

I consider Union's End to be one of the 'extremities' of South Africa. The others I have been to are Alex Bay, Crook's Corner and Cape Point. I am only missing the KZN/Moz coastal border.

We just returned from a week in KTP in a sedan. The two river roads and dune roads are passable in a normal sedan.

The roads are actually not as bad as I had expected. There are some corrugated and bumpy stretches but there are also very smooth stretches. Some sections can be a bit hard on a sedan's suspension but take it easy (don't speed!!!), let down the tyres to 1.6 bar and just enjoy.

Just be aware that your car is going to get very dirty

Hi
We are going to do a botswana and namibia trip in may with 2 4x4's and a trailer. We have heard the roads are in bad shape, we want to enter at twee rivieren and leave through Mabuasehube, does anyone know if this is possible and/or advisable.
Thanks

Hi andrim,

yes that's possible. Don't know about the trailer. But a 4x4 trailer will do.

The road is actually a sand track and AFAIK it's done with a trailer by a lot of people in these days.

Remember that it's a long drive from Nossob to Bosobogolo junction. It took us nine hours without a trailer including some game viewing.

Thanks - it cleared up quite a few issues!!
Any "do not miss" suggestions if we are in the park for only 2 days - or for Botswana we are heading towards moremi, chobe, vic fall and then to namibia via the caprivi!

BB, what about Cape Aghulas? It is the southern-most tip!

All camps except Bitterpan & Gharaghab are accessable without any major problems by a sedan car.

btw. All camps on the Bots side are in 4x4 territory.
