The male is the only sunbird of the area to have a metallic green head, back and throat and a white belly. The female is dull brown above with off-white below, she is very similar to several other species.

Hi there,

I have another one if anyone is interested. I can't seem to find this sunbird in any of my books, so I don't have much of an idea. He seems to have a purple/blue collar, yellow 'shoulder', white belly and rump. They were taken at Makhadzi picnic area in KNP.

My guess is white-bellied sunbird. But where did that yellow patch come from?

Cheers!

Thats definately a white-bellied sunbird, the yellow pectoral patches are not very often seen....and I could only guess there was a female near by, as the males show off these pectoral patches during the breeding season to try attract mates. Well captured
