I think it is the same Spider.
The first pic was taken around noon and the second on the same day close to gate closing.

please help
we have had a golden orb spider in our garden (durban) for at least five months. It started with a small web close to the ground and has gradually moved up until it was high up in the fronds of a strezlitzia (bannana palm) this morning i noticed that it appears to have dissappeared the web appears to be intact with a heavy concentration of web in the middle. how long do they live? what could have preyed on her? or do they just move to a better location? she was so beautiful i would like to knoe more about her.

thanks

Your Orb spider has probably passed on by now. the concentration of web in the middle would be her egg sac and if this stays safe you should have more to enjoy in the warmer months

I have found my golden orb spider, she had moved across to another frond. we watched her working away on her web on saturday. on sunday morning she was gone again but through co-incidence i found her, she had moved back down to an area close to where i first saw her in january. she has made a small web spanning two fronds of a dracaena hookeriana and has gone very quiet. this morning she is in the same position as she was yesterday and is not moving. she has only six legs and i am wondering if this is an indication of her age and if she has come to the safe area to die. i have a great pic of her but do not know how to post it (a bit of a computer dinosaur) this whole spider experience has been awesome for me as i am TERRIFIED of spiders. i can watch her from a distance and feel fine but if i get too close i begin to get the creeps.

this golden orb spider of mine is a real lady, she cannot make up her mind where she wants to be! she has relocated back up high near her first big web and has spun the most glorious big web. she is too high up to photgraph but the web is really beautiful and when the sun shines through it glows and glitters in the most amazing gold. please can someone tell me how to post my photo on the site so i can share it. :?
