Hey Christo.

You had a great trip last time out. :D

Are you referring to the tar road section that runs parralel to the S83?

You saw the elusive lazy horse here? That's fantastic.

It's imperative.

Leave KNP alone. Go build a hotel someplace else. Reserves are for the preservation of wildlife.

Usually a refuge from the madding crowds around Disneyworld .

I crossed the dry river bed and driving very slowly looked in the mirror , a very young lion cub and mother crossed behind me , I slowly reversed back in an attempt not to intrude on their moment , but they were no longer visible .

Drove the road on 29th November last year and saw 2 large Male lions right next to the road - very relxed they were!
Having worked and driven for a couple of years on the private property about 1km away, it was nice to be back near my home terf.

A little tip for you all and at the risk of increasing traffic on this road:
As the Sabi Sands is renowned for its relaxed animals especially Lion & Leopard (due to them being followed off road a lot) driving on this road gives you a chance of seeing some of the animals when they cross out into the KNP. Thats why when I have seen predators on this road its almost always been a good sighting as they have always been relaxed!

When you drive this road you feel like a leopard might cross the road at any moment!
There is a certain co-operative leopard that always comes out as per tradition to show himself to the formites on the Saturday before the cricket at Skukuza!

The Maroela Loop/S83 road seems like a very busy area for lions, does anyone have any info/dates on the lion prides or male lions that they have seen there. thanks

Hi Jasond,

Did you have a look here........Marula Loop

A bit very long since the last posting, but I'm sure someone will be along shortly with some updated info.

We had some very nice lions sightings there last year, but that might be to long ago.......

Hey guys we did the route of Easter weekend and we saw these twins on the sand bank along with Sandton parking traffic!! very hectic with lots of cars!!

Image

and then the previous trip in December we had this sighting in the exact place as the lions. he was walking down the side of the sand bank with only 4 cars which all left when he jumped up into the bushes only to cross behind our car 10 min. later :)
