Works the same as the resident animals in camps. We will create an easy reference list.

We ask for your input again my fine fellow 'mites.

The list will comprise animals known to be resident at Picnic spots in the park.

There is a Scops Owl at Afsaal and Bushbuck (pests) at Timbavati.

I think tree squirels exist throughout the park so please don't be offended if we leave that one out.

Think of the more interesting ones.

Just to add to BH's suggestions, maybe we can make a list of picnic spots / waterholes / low water bridges etc where people know resident animals stay? Again thinking out loud

I can remember at Babalala that it was not a good idea to have bare feet on the ground because the mongoose mistook toes for a tasty snack.

We were in Tmibavati in Feb this year and not a bushbuck in sight - has anyone seen them there since then? The monkeys at Nkhule (? spelling) are a real pest.

We were at Timbavati in July 2007 and the bush buck was a real pest. It actually tried to push people out of the way to get to their food.

The unfortunate consequence of animals becoming pests is that they get "put down" for want of a better way to put it. Tourists often fail to understand this and continue to feed animals without realising that they are doing more harm than good.

Perhaps someone has more information on this that they might care to share on what happened to the Bush buck.

Personally, I would rather not know.

One was taken out by a leopard at lunch time in July 2006, the day after we had been there

Saw a bushbuck hanging around Timbavati in Nov last year.

Like I said in an earlier post, i saw one in august 2007.

From what i have been reading lately no bushbuck have been seen recently at Timbavati. Any1 with recent info ?

No bushbuck in sight last month.

Was at Timbivati this previous weekend. Bushbuck was there, but unfortunately, no Leopard to sort her out!!!

The monkeys at the lookout point over the Olifantsriver close to the turnoff to Olifantscamp is really a problem. They are in a flash in your car to take what they can get.

Will see if the bushbuck is still around on 8 May.

In about 48 hours, I will be at Afsaal indulging in a bush brekkie and I will be checking out the Scops owl.

Other Picnic spots I will be going to are:

Nhlanguleni and Mlondozi Dam. It is unlikely but possible I might get to Timbavati but have no plans for that at this time.

Will give some feedback on this one.
