We were delighted to see new sightings boards at the camps, gates and picnic sights. They are great and would like to thank the HR for going such a good job. Only one thing confused me, why has Lower Sabie not received a new board?

The new boards are great, and they should last longer as the others were damaged each time a pin was put in.

Small note of caution to those who relay on these for sightings.... I know folk move the markers around - have seen it, and also actually heard a father telling his kids to 'go and move the pins around on the map'. On that occasion (at Malelane gate) one of the security guards heard him and quietly wandered over to the board - but other boards are nowhere near officialdom so cannot be watched as easily. Sad........

It would be ironic if as a result of a moved pin you got your best sighting ever.

It's a bit of an infantile thing to do. Our kids have a game moving the keys on computer keyboards. One lad put some thought into it and switched some keys so the person about to log on had a username that spelt something very rude. He then called out "Sir look what Fred has typed in!"

It's very hard to keep a straight face in these circumstances.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new boards.

Ag, I think that most people know that they should take the sightings boards for what they are... an indication. Nothing more and nothing less.
I would've loved to have seen that huge heart-shaped congregation of all the big 5 plus some extras thrown in for colours' sake last October tho'.

I know! That is why I said 'small' note of caution......! However I do know that there are folk who head straight for camps and check the boards before planning their routes..... even some local folk who should know better! The only reason I check them is to see where nothing has been spotted - and even then cannot be sure it is because no one has been there, or there really are no animals about.

I fully intended taking a picture of the new boards, but I forgot sorry. Maybe you guys going to the cricket can remember to get a picture

I came back from the park today and was amazed to see the new boards, laminated and with magnetic markers
Careful though. if you touch the markers they move very easily as I found out

I always go armed with lots of map pins in case the boards are short, what must I do with 500 coloured pins now perhaps the far north is behind the times

I also forget to take a picture of the new sighting boards but have to disappoint you Freda besides Lower Sabie and Letaba all other camps already are using the new ones (also Punda Maria and Shingwedzi).

They do indeed look great but some of the camps forgot regularly to change the "today" and "yesterday" signs so every sightings was mixed up with the one of the day before - maybe here can be somthing done. and some very "funny" ones put all the "wild dog" magnets in Skukuza on the S28

The new boards are fantastic saw them as I travelled down from Orpen via PKop out Malelane much better than the pin boards and nice and clear.

I know you would have debated this but I found the discs a bit big when trying to place multiple sightings in a close area. just something to consider when discs are replaced. Kiddies like those magnetic discs sticking to each other as I saw at Malelane, you may need replacements faster than thought.

The discs are the size of the the top of a drawing pin (thumb tack) I thought that was what it was till I touched one and it moved

I like to look at the sightings board not only to see where the game is but to chat to the other folk also looking. That way you do get a better chance of a true sighting!
