Hi

Is there any shade available for a tent at Stormsrivier?
When is the wind at it's worst?
Weather in February?

Is Nature's Valley a better spot to camp?

Also, the new decks at Knysna....how far must you carry your stuff to the platforms? Do you park far away?

Any campers, advise please?

Thank you!

Rooikat, cant answer you about the shade at Stormsriver, but I do know that Natures Valley is a lovely place to camp.

Weather in Feb used to be good. These days, with the weather doing strange things, think you just have to take a chance.

Rooikat, have a look at a pic of the camping area I posted here. There is no shade at Storms River. The coast is always windy - but the further away from Jan you get; ie Feb, March, April, the less windy it is. But the wind is a small price to pay for the stunning setting.

Here is pics of the Nature's Valley camping area.

WTM has visited the new camping area at Knysna - read here.

Thanks for all the info!

One more question: Is it safe to camp, also to walk in the forest at Stormsrivier?

(Have heard of other places where you get mugged for your binoculars when you try to do birding!)

Hi Rooikat

Storms River rest camp is quite safe and walking in the forest is also. Same applies to Natures Valley.
There are a few campsites at SR that have shade, they do not have a sea view however. They are situated somewhere near the forest huts if memory serves. The sites with a sea view are in ful sun. I would suggest you phone the park directly to find out which ones are shaded.

The camp sites at Natures Valley are all set in the forest and are quite lovely and shady. They do not have electricity though.

Fantastic, but no shade, but you don't need shade then. Electricity and "platform" as can be seen from photo.
Right next to ocean. some much closer than these in photo.

Hi There... we were in Tsitsikamma in December and the wind and storms were at their worst! We were actually in a cabin but looking over the camping site. No one seemed to have any trouble in the bad weather but we noticed you could have a camp site further back away from the edge of the cliffs - maybe a little more sheltered there?

Cricket in Skukuza in March

PS...The most beautiful camp/caravan site we have seen!
