Hmm..., Yep I think I am also going to go with vine snake.

I am really sorry, but I will not be able to log on on the 1st of December as I will be up in the Winterburg enjoying a hard-earned break and from there I am headed straight to a game reserve in Limpopo and I will only be back on the 18th of December.

OK- here's an easy one... You might see me on the ground in Maputaland, where I may lay for a couple of months. I have a tendency to hybridize with a more common cousin, and come standard with hypodermic needles...

It must be the "King of camouflage" - the gaboon adder (Bitis gabonica). This snake's fangs are up to 40 mm in length!

Aah! read the question better next time kiddo. I made the mistake of falling for the wording and assuming aboreal. I concur Gaboon adder which has been known to hybridise with the puffadder.

You're quite right, Adansonia: Bitis gabonica it is. As Jeanus noted, they do hybridize with puffies. The hypodermic needles of BIG fellows have been measured at just over 2 inches, and they are not all that active. Very pleasant, laid-back snakes, actually; it takes quite a bit to make one go snappy on you. but then again, seeing as they can inject a good 800+mg of cytotoxins into your body, you don't want them to be temperamental....

OK, Adansonia, the floor's all yours....

Only 15 of the 143 snake species in Southern Africa have actually killed people.

The first person to correctly name 7 of these snakes wins this quiz.
