Transport dam

Unread postby kaka_sparrow » Thu Aug 02, 2007 11:33 pm

i had a wonderful experiance at transport dam in march 2007. a whole pride of lions were sleeping when, suddenly, a lioness just got into a crouched position. looking into the trees i seen about 3 wildebeest..immediately the lioness charged but just missed by +-a metre. the adrenelin rush i encountered was..aye..too much!!
Has anyone else had a golden moment there be it with a predator or even the smallest of creatures?

Transport dam

We love to sit at Transport dam waiting for something to happen. Had a number of golden moments there. Just a few of them.

Lions ambushing impalas.
Patiently waiting for them to come closer to the dam.
Just as the lioness was about to charge a fellow tourist stopped, opened his combi door, not taking anybody els in consideration and climb on top of the car to take photo's.
This after we waited for some time to see the out come.
Needless to say that the impala's ran away.
I felt as if I could break his neck because he spoilt everything.
This is one of the reasons why I don't stop when there's lions or a leopard when there are other vehicles.

At another visit we saw wild dogs chasing an Impala and heard when they caught up with the impala. However we could not see the kill.

Then again Wild dogs that chased a Water buck into the water.
It looked as if it changed into a practice for the younger wild dogs as the older dogs laid at the side of the dam watching their young ones.
The Water buck came out of the water and chased the younger dogs.
The adults would then step in and the water buck would ran back into the water.
I took a 17min. video recording of the animals taking turns of chasing each other.
What an experience.

Our first ever cheetah sighting in Kruger was on the road to TD, circa 1980.
My first wild dog kill took place there in 1995. The doggies caught an impala on the far side. It was filmed and shown on 50/50 in the next year.
Since then it has been a bit slow for us.

Saw my first lions on the hunt there.

It was the first dam I've ever stopped at in Kruger.

I still have a soft spot for it.

No cats, dogs or kills, for me at Transport, but I did see my first (and only) Pygmy Kingfisher.

Monday night at Transport Dam. 11 dogs moving off on the hunt - I sat with several others watching them for about 40 minutes - magical!

Great Wild Dog sighting and a very 8) photo. It seems that wild dogs are often seen at Transport Dam. We usually see Impala’s, Zebra's and Waterbuck at this dam.
