Oi! My work never ends...

Hello All,

I have seen:

African Civet
African Wild Cat
Caracal
Porcupine
Serval
Sidestriped Jackal
South African Hedgehog

Off to Kruger for 16 days of in exactly 6 weeks' time!!

2 - Aardwolf [not yet]
3 - African Civet: on the H7 just passed Bobbejaan Krans
4 - Africa Wild Cat - [outside SANparks]
5 - Bushpig: on the S64
6 - Caracal: KTNP
7 - Pangolin [not yet]
8 - Porcupine [Not yet]
9 - Serval [not yet]
10 - Sidestripped Jakal - [outside SANparks]
11- South African Hedgehog - [outside SANparks]

Hallo all,

I have seen all of them but pangolin in the wild, but not all in Kruger.

1. Aardvark:I can not recall that I have them in Kruger but my last sighting was on a night drive at ***
2. Aardwolf: Never in Kruger but also at ***.
3. Civet: My favourite animal. I have seen in Tamboti and Biyamiti camp. Also on drives at Orpen, Satara, Lower Sabie.
4. African Wild Cat: On numerous night drives. The last one was on 24 March 2007 at Lower Sabie. In day time on S100.
5. Bushpig. I have last seen in Kruger as a child. It was in Pafuri and close to Skukuza very early morning.
6.Caracal: The last time I saw one in Kruger was about 7 years ago between Balule and Bangu waterhole.
7. Pangolin:The most elusive of them all!! The night I see one I will invite the hole camp for a party!!!
8. Porcupine. I have seen on night drives at Satara and Lower Sabie. The last time was end of October at Lower Sabie.
9. Serval. Numerous times on night drives from L/Sabie. In fact the 6 drives I have seen one every time. Also seen last year on S100 in day time.
10. Side Striped Jackal: It seems to me at the moment there are more Side Striped than Black Back in KNP. Seen always around Lower Sabie. Last time was 2 sightings - 4 animals on the night drive at LowerSabie. See posting under Side Stripe.
11. Hedgehog. Never seen in KNP, but on ***.

P.S. Please let me know where I can see a Pangolin in the wild.

You guys better watch it with the dead animals , or else ill claim an aardvark also .

Serval-yup 2x in one morning KNP
Side striped jackal-yup KNP
SA hedgehog-yup KNP-I swear I did!

All in KNP.

Saw a Hedgehog at Woody Cape recently and resaw this Caracal last week...total now 10 with only the Aardvark to come IN a National Park

BTW saw a side-striped jackal last week in KNP...

Ja WAC it was in Addo last week where they are thriving> I took about 30 pics and my Dad 4 special pics which will go into his book he will be doing in a few years time. I posted a better pic on the Frontier Parks Forum "7 Caracals" which shows its graceful feline form. Well done on the Side Striped Jackal ...Saw one last about 4 yrs ago but in Dec my Boet and mom stayed in at Shimuwini while we went on a drive and they saw one right in front of the camp by the river in the middle of the day...Not common at all.

African civet - at Marakele
African Wild cat - at KTP, two 1KM apart on the Nossob road.
Porcupine - two, few meters apart in a Satara night drive

How does a bushpig look like? and a Pangolin? sidestriped jackal? or South African Hedgehog??

I think we should only count the ones who have pictures to prove it! heheheheh

i saw pporcupine at letaba during night drive in 2005 and side striped jackal on 7 july 2007 outside satara on his way to a lion kill. theh rest, only on tv and in books....

It's a matter of integrity, if someone says that they saw a species which they did not then they are only fooling themselves.
