You guys are forgetting something....

You need to deduct the lenght of the Hippo's nek and head from the length of the rope, and make the rope by that much shorter, otherwise the hippo will eat more than exactly half. Also, some animals have a better ability to stretch than others, even within the species......

I doubt there is an exact mathematical answer in general. It can however be calculated for an individual Hippo, once all the parameters have been calculated

This will give you the basics of the calculation:

Call her Dr Jose Math!

BTW, to halve any circle (A) area with radius r with another circle's radius (R) that has its centre point on the circumference of circle A, the ratio of R/r is always 1.15872847.

Now, let's do the same exercise for a giraffe...

First get the total weight of each hippo before they started weighing. Then subtract their weight for that day from that 300+ which will give you the answer you are looking for.

This one's for Gwen only:

If you have a circular field that is 72.50 meters wide and you tie a hippo to one of the fence posts.. how long does the rope have to be so that the hippo will only be able to eat exactly half of the field??????

This is serious math (so good luck)
Two decimal accuracy will do.
