With your leftmousebotton depressed you can move the map, with the righthand one you can zoom in or out.

I'm searching for a legend of the map. What, for instance, do the little blue antilopes mean?

I just had a quick look and the blue bokkies represent waterholes.

you can also click on the letters (representing ecozones), camps and trails to find out more about them... what a cool map!!!

Yes you can usually buy your KNP mapbook (my most current one is published by Honeyguide) at the gate, altho sometimes they are out of stock in the language you prefer — but then you can just wait and try the shop at your first camp.
The map book shows all the details and gives all the information you'll need and also has pix of most of the common animals and birds — altho a good field guide will give better pix and more details.

We bought one of those cloth maps on KNP to put in our son's bedroom the last time we were in KNP (almost a year ago now, but still pretty recent in terms of the map).
It's really outdated - Phabeni for example, which has been around for a couple of years already, wasn't on it. The map is almost exclusively labelled in Afrikaans - no English version available according to the shop assistant - which makes me think it possibly even predates 1994?
In any case, I wonder how many international tourists would like a copy in a language they understand.

I keep forgetting to post this, but have been wondering if there will be an updated version of this wall map coming out sometime?
We love the map, and Mikey loves being picked up to point out all the different animals pictured on it.
But if a new version became available we'd be queuing up to buy it

I went into every single shop when we visited the Park in January looking for one of these cloth maps as mine was bought 10 years ago and is looking somewhat tatty.
They were totally unavailable.
Whilst on the subject of maps I found the new map extremely informative but the actual map scale and names of roads etc too small to read and I do not wear reading glasses - a grave error on someones part.

I would be very interested to know when the cloth maps are going to be made available again and as BB says updated at the same time.

And I've got the one on the right, only bought it last April My map appears to be a roughly updated version, with the newer camps and some newer roads added, but as Meg notes, most of the names and info is in Afrikaans.

@ Penny: I only saw these cloth maps up north, in the shops at Punda Maria and Shingwedzi. And I agree with you about the new(er) maps, that they are getting smaller and smaller, I'd guess to accommodate all the "pretty pix" and other stuff. I personally would FAR rather have a larger scale map and am very glad that I still have mine from the 80s.

@ Jay: Would be cool to see your antique map, to compare with Freda's two. There's also quite some differences in the drawings between Freda's two

I agree, these cloth maps are really special and I hope they can made easily available again and with all the latest info, I bought mine fairly recently, somewhere in Kruger, but for the life of me cannot remember from exactly which camp shop.
I have mine hanging right next to my computor and also one of the Kgaligadi as well.
They are great for quick references while reading someones report.

Now that is a idea, Elsa!! I unfortunately don't have enough wall space near my computer. My cloth KNP map hangs in my kitchen — and I'm glad to hear that there's a comparable KTP one, will definitely plan on getting that!

I'm always digging out my KNP map book to check references — and I don't have a decent KTP map, just the printout from this website

Thanks very much for looking Freda - sounds like they're becoming rarer than hens teeth! Suddenly even having an out of date one seems like a privilege (oooh - I got to use the spell checker )

Unfortunately I've never seen the KTP ones when we've been there or I think I'd have mine side by side like Elsa does too (except I have to keep running from the study to Mikey's bedroom next door when checking trip reports ).

If you go to www.krugerpark.co.za you will find maps with all the roads and numbers of the roads.

On the left there is a list of all camps. Click on a camp and then click on the map icon under it. It will bring up the region of where the camp is, with all roads as well.

Not to sure if you can print it though, if so you can wet your appetite so long. Take note of the size of this place, you will be seeing maybe a 1/10 of the whole park.
