you will see on the one pic NO TENT. the weather was SO SO perfect we decided on the one night to drop the tent and sleep under the stars...

wow what an experience. but my question is, why the night we do this the lions decide to bring down their prey just outside camp?? we presume they brought down a buffalo because of the large herd that moved past camp at around 4pm.
what a night it was, they sounded like they were 10 metres outside the fence (im sure it was like 200m tho)
and you always see those doccies where the lions are feeding, and snarling at each other as they eat. well that was them snarling THE WHOLE NIGHT, never slept a wink.

not to mention THE MASSIVE pink spiders that were running around the campsite floor, obviously being attracted to the gas lights we had. we called them pink spiders coz they kinder were seethru pic and massive.. i thought oh no i dont like tsendze anymore, these spiders are pretty scary, they must be indiginous to this type of terrain, but then a couple days later they were also running around balule. wouldnt mind if someone could identify them for me, will post pic of them.

but one of the great highlights for me was the two cleaner people working at tsendze... rodgers and elina.
lol rodgers is quite a character, you guys will see when you eventually get there.... man he can talk and tell stories... but dont get him started, he will never end :)
we even invited him for supper one night, and we sat chatting away late into the night... ask him about the story of the one and only time he went to jhb, travelling at high speed 90km/h in the right hand lane of our 4 lane highways :)

ps, im back at tsenze in two weeks time, i loved it that much

There are 2 communal gas fridges , I hear that in season you may have a battle for fridge space , but that is probably common to all such camps .

You can pre book a camp site.
In July 2011 we camped on number 26, it was close to the ablutions and right at the fence as well,
next year 2012 we have pre booked site number 27,
besides Balule it is one of our favourite camps in the park.
We fell in love with Tsendze the minute we drove through the gates :gflower: :k

Hello fellow Bush-lovers,

Hubster and I have booked at Tzendze for May and we are counting down the days!!! We will be renting a 4x4 trailer for the stay which is EXTREMELY exciting for the 2 of us!

As all of you seem to be the experts on the camp, can someone please comment on the following with regards to spot no 3:
1. Privacy
2. Shade
3. Proximity to fence
4. Distance from ablutions

I will sincerely appreciate your comments!

Alto, I am not to sure about secluded but the people in the know say that number 26 is the best, it is along the fence, close to the ablutions.
we were on that site last year, this year we are going to be on number 31, also along the fence but further away from the ablutions,
in my opinion any site along the fence is good,
you should look under "accommodation photos" and there is a map of the camp.

Vleisvreter, you make a reservation as normal and then you call Mopani and book a specific site number. You won't regret camping at Tsendze

Hi people, I love to read the forum and enjoy all the great stories that you share.
We are regulars in Kruger but had a baby that is now 18 months.
So have not visited Kruger for last 2 years.

We are booked in Tsendze (first time in this camp) from 6 October to 9 October.
But I read on the forum that there can be snakes  and other crawly things around.
What I want to know is the following: do you think that it is to dangerous to take a small child (21 Months) to such a rustic camp?
Or is mommy being paranoid??

I don't think you are being paranoid at all - just a caring, responsible mum! :D
I haven't stayed at Tsendze so can't speak of it specifically but I think that there may only be a slightly higher chance than normal of encountering snakes or spiders for example, due to the camp being more rustic and more intimate with the bush (if you get what I mean). My thinking is that normal close supervision of a young child will be sufficient - but don't let vigilance turn too much to worry which could spoil your enjoyment
Just my thoughts. Hopefully a seasoned Tsendze camper can set you straight

Welcome to the forums Leoni

I have also not stayed at Tzenze, but it's my understanding, that snakes and spiders etc, are just as likely to be found in Skukuza as a rustic camp.............both are in Africa, and both are in the bush, even though Skuks is larger and more populated. A snake does not know the difference (other than one will be quieter I suppose)

I am very phobic with snakes and spiders, and each Kruger visit, I worry that I will be sharing my bungalow with one of them, but so far so good!!

Keep vigilant and watch where you step, but if you want to stay at Tzendze, then go for it!!

Hope you have a wonderful trip.
