Online booking for Pensioners?

Unread postby colfenn » Thu Apr 04, 2013 3:31 pm

Good day,

I believe SANParks has one of the best websites. Its quick and easy to surf. Online booking and payment is relatively painless - BUT why can us pensioners not book online? You have all our details eg ID number etc that would indicate ones age. I am sure that one of the wizz-kids could modify the program to accommodate this request. I was informed a couple of years back that it was being looked into.

It can take forever on the phone waiting to be put through to someone to make a booking. Rather spend my pension discount on a beer under a tree in SANParks somewhere than on telephone calls.

Kind regards
So much to see-so little time.

Hi WildThing,

Don't have a problem with the service - always been good. Had to wait over 11 min this morning - a voice regularly reminding me to go to the website for info etc. Got to chat to polite person (missed her name - my fault) 2 min later she suggested I phone back later - system off line. eish

Hi Colfenn,

I have always had legendary service from Elise (below, also a pensioner) and her team. She is an ex SANP employee. I copied this below from another page on this website.

I agree with colfenn. Surely in this day and age it is a simple thing to do. Less human involvement = lower cost.
Reduced cost= more Rands for conservation.

Could anyone from Parks Board respond and throw some light on this question?

Eish, still no online booking for pensioners. Have booked 3 nights at Mountain Zebra and 3 nights at Bontebok this September. Did the bookings over the phone with the Jhb office. Credits to all in was quick and painless. (tx Emsie )

Dear colfenn,

At this point in time many of the rules and controls around the senior citizen discount rely on manual intervention within our Central Reservation System in order to prevent public from taking advantage of this online. Sorry to disappoint. :(

Having said that, it is in our plans to implement this facility in the foreseeable future.

It is now 15 months later, is there any further news on this?

If you can make a booking for a child at a lower rate what it the problem getting the same set-up for pensioners even if a non-pensioner make the booking. If you cannot proof the persons you counted as pensioners are within that age group then pay-up before you occupy your accommodation and get an exit permit. As easy as that. Can't see how any one can miss use such an system if something like than is already in place for children under 12 years and under 2 years and it works.
