Fact or Myth ... The oldest known tree in South Africa established by carbon dating is about 6000 years old?

Thank you Pholojwe for noticing. My question of the baobab was indeed one that required deeper investigation, and also my way of placing into doubt the advertised assertion that the oldest tree in South Africa (and which would contend for oldest in the world) is 6000 years, based on radiocarbon dating. Phokjwe and Philip, you did pick up on the name of the tree, but I wanted it realised that radiocarbon dating is not viable when an organism is still living, as the ratio of carbon isotopes used for the dating method does not alter until the tissue is dead. Therefore, based on this at least, the seeming extreme age of this tree must be questioned. Extremely well done to Imberbe for noticing.     And, IB, if you're around, please pose the next Q.

Thanks for all the answers, mites. Yes, Heksie, THAT high; it is estimated that, of all the birds in the world, about 1200 species are under threat of extinction due to the interference of some kind from humans. Over to you, Phokojwe.

It is said that bushbabies have at least 18 different calls, so this question is more one of semantics than not. Do they have 25 calls (which fits into the "at least 18" scenario), or is "at least 18" not the same as "at least 25"? :hmz: :hmz: Since 18 and 25 are significantly different, I'm going with False.

Thanks onewithnature

I would say True

Bushbabies have 10 or 11 basic sounds, that when combined can produce some 25 recognizable different calls. Advertising” calls are done by a type of bark. Alarm calls are more varied and may start off with a hoarse grunt grading into a sneezing noise, but the more excited they become the more the pitch and intensity.

Phokojwe, you're the incumbent quizmaster. Perhaps you should ask another Q?
