Hello Everyone... It's been so overwhelming to read & receive all the messages & support, the thoughts and all the prayers in many cases from complete strangers. It has been really unbelievable the amount of support i have received and it has shown me and the family how many very good people there are in this world. Thank-you to everyone, much appreciated... One of the principal doctors overlooking my treatment mentioned to me on the phone this morning that it is only by "Genade" = Grace that I'm here today, I was apparently "knocking on the door" on a number of occasions whilst still in ICU. I believe it is all the prayer, positive thoughts, loving family & friends and GOD's grace that have brought me to the point where I now am and it's great to be back at home.. although still in pain and uncomfortable I'm slowly getting better... And there's no place like home... Nice to sit in the garden and listen to birds, hippo's, etc.. Its great to be able to recover here from last weeks ops... appointment with orthopedic surgeon set for the 21st and then plan will be drawn-up to deal with my hip (they haven't touched it yet because of the risk of infection and one the rounds shattered right in the middle of my left ball joint)... One step at a time and hopefully will be back at work & in the sticks shortly.. — at Letaba Rest Camp

The latest update from Andrew on the facebook page, post 20 mins ago:

Andrew Desmet posted to Andrew Desmet Support Group

Hello everyone... We just got back to Letaba... Had a good trip to Nelspruit... Thank goodness for the KNP arranging me to be flown down by helicopter because my hip was really talking to me after just an hour which is the time it took to reach Nelspruit as opposed to the 4 hours it would have taken by vehicle (one way)... I had a double appointment with the psychologist (was good and sorted some head issues out) and then went to see the orthopedic surgeon (first had to go get new X-rays taken of the hip) he looked at my wounds and said that he's very happy and surprised at how good they are looking... He is now willing to operate previously he always said no because of the risk of infection...He then looked at the new X-rays and mentioned how messed up my hip was (bone dying, bullet fragments, etc) He said he wants to probably do a hip replacement even though I am young which will limit me, wont be able to run marathons etc and if I look after the artificial hip then should last 20 +years...He then sent me for a CT scan so he could get more info and he will phone me on Friday with his final decision regarding the procedure (hip replacement or reconstruction although he thinks a reconstruction unless the CT scan reveals less damage to the hip & femur than what he can see on the X-ray) and when he would do the operation (in the next two weeks)... Thx for all messages & support

Hi Andrew. I have had a total hip replacement and not looked back. I would recommend that if you are offered one then seriously consider taking it.

I wish you all the best and trust that your recovery is swift and complete.

Regards

Pops
