Hi,

I think that is a great idea if Duke's tusks and everything else plus a story of his life be displayed at Crocodile Bridge

In November 2012 we stayed at Letaba and i visited the Elephant hall. I spoke to the young lady who works at the hall (sorry i did not get her name) and asked her about Dukes display. She said planes are in progress to reorganise the hall and Dukes tuskes will be displayed with a wall-mount without the skull and this will only happen in TWO years time.

I watched the old re-runs of "Voetspore van die Grotes" (Afrikaans travel program circa 2000) and in the Kruger section the episode ends with the presenter stating that every now and then you come accross something special that makes your trip worthwhile...and then the camera pans to Duke.

He was truly a legend.

Any news on a special display for this old timer?

Thank you very much RosemaryH.

I am sure many others will also be interested in the latest developments.

Hi All,

Does anyone know how the plans for a Duke memorial at Letaba are coming along? (Or anywhere else for that matter).

Perhaps someone in the Park can find out when they pop into Letaba?

I was never fortunate enough to see him in life and I would very much like to see a special place for him.

Dear Stephan

Please note that at the moment we do not have space for Duke at Letaba Elephant Hall. We are planning to have information wall at Crocodile Bridge where Duke used to stay. We are currently in a process of sourcing funds to erect Duke's skeleton at the Crocodile Bridge Gate. If we get the funding this process might be completed by the end of this year. Should the space be available in future the Duke's tusk will be transferred to Letaba Elephant Hall.

Thank you all for the information provided.

Stephens, can you (or anyone else who might know) advise if there are currently any fund raising programme where we can contribute?

Hi! Stephan

Most of our funding programmes are facilitated by the SANParks Honorary Rangers. You can liaise with their PR & Communication person, Mr Louis Lemmer on 012 567 5580 or email louis.lemmer@telkomsa.net

Sounds great. I think Crocodile Bridge is the perfect place for an information wall for Duke!

When we went though Crocodile Bridge Gate in April I saw the information board for Duke.

But I didn't have time to look at it properly. Perhaps at the end of November when I go again I'll stop and read it.

Thank you Stephens for all the info.

I hope his offspring is wandering around growing tusks as we speak
