Hi John

It is a tough one, as I am sure you are asking because you want to try and get the best site available at Lower Sabie.

Last September I was staying at Malelane and wanted to get to Croc Bridge as early as possible to get a good site. I wasn't camping at Malelane though so I didn't have to pack up. We left just after gate opening which was also 6am and got to CB just before 9ish.

I would definitely use the s25 route because there are no Perimeter sites at LS and sites are basically demarcated.

I tend to agree with Spargish. I find this a very productive road and given the popularity of the area, pretty free of traffic.

What would the best gravel route be from CB to P/Kop?
S25 via Gardenia to Afsaal?
H5, S108,, S26, H3 to Afsaal?
H5, S23, S113 to Afsaal?
We enjoy all animals - big or small, walking or flying :D

Hi there Mags,

I like to include the Stevenson Hamilton memorial and Renoster koppies. It takes a little longer, but it makes my trip complete. If I can, I go to say "thank you" to the good man who has done so much.

I would consider the S25, S119, S114 up to Biyamiti Weir and then the S26 Biyamiti loop, S113 over to the H3. From that point I'd take the H3 north and then the H1-1. But you could go south on the H3 to Asfaal for a stop, then either head back up the H3 to the H1-1 or take the Voortrekker Road to Pretoriuskop.

I need a bit of advice

Is it possible to drive from Letaba to Lower Sabie in one day? (I travel very slowly in the park :cam: ) Would it be better to stick to the H 1-5, H 1-4, H 1-3 and H10 or will there be enough time to go on some of the gravel roads? :hmz:

Hi RemiE
We drove from Tsendze to Lower Sabie, unfortunately only the tar as you said but we drove 30-40km/h and reached LS by 14:00 so you can drive dirt roads :D

Agree with Heksie :)
Last month we did Skukuza to Letaba (which is almost the same distance as Letaba-LS) and we got there at 14:30.

Hi TD
Personally I would do the following
H7, S106, S140, S145 (productive road), all the way down the S36 (also a very productive road), breakfast at Nhlanguleni, still on S36 (look for Sable), Join the H1-2 travel to Skekuza, go check out lake panic. Take the H11 to Paul Kruger Gate and take the S3 (a bit of a detour, but to date this was our most productive ‘in the heat of the day’ road). It is a beautiful road along the Sabie river. Go on the the S1 (take a pic at the Albasini ruines), back on S3, and take the S7 (Shabeni loop is worth the while if open) travel towards Pretoriuskop.
Unpack and unwind

Hi tent dweller,

I am with RemiE on this one. Got to take the S36. My favourite road in the park with a good chance of seeing all the specials. Nhlanguleni a must for breakfast. Best picnic spot in Kruger

According to the distances chart it is 149km from Croc Bridge to Berg en Dal or 6 hours drive.Surely this cannot be correct?

Hi Tiko

I believe the map stick to the tar road routes, which makes the 149km understandable. By using routes like the s25 or the H5 you are looking at around 50-60km.

Hi!

I will be visiting the park in early October. How many km per day is realistic and enjoyable when travelling on main roads within the park?

I plan to rent a car in Hoedspruit airport in the afternoon on Friday and I need to be at Berg en Dal camp on Sunday afternoon for the wilderness trail.
Can I afford to drive to Letaba camp from the airport and drive to Skukuza camp the following day, or would it be too much and I should start from Satara instead?

Thanks!
