Thanks Penny.

missings. a.! and I have been talking about getting celebs involved for a while.

Stark put a link to the basketball player doing his bit for poaching.

threedogs spoke about getting celebs to promote educational campaigns.

We need to change the mindset of people that think we have done everything. I asked at one stage who is best positioned to do this?

40 YES FORTY rhino are being auctioned off to the highest bidder at Sibaya Casino tomorrow - sorry I can no longer discuss this without a growing sense that there is more to the trade issue and Government's stance. Sanparks are not being given the support they deserve to fight this and its a foregone conclusion that all these people are either going to buy these rhino to hunt them for their horns to wealthy tourists or stockpile the horns in the hope that the legalisation of trade is going to be forthcoming. Until such time as we can convince people that rhino horn has NO medicinal value and therefore to trade in it would be a fraudulent act we are not going to stop this. No rhino should be sold given the status quo right now and every resource whether it be from this magnificent gesture of someone who does not even live in our courtry or from local governance but the situation is extremely grave!

Penny, the article I have just posted in the Poaching thread will explain a lot about the sale of the rhino in South Africa. It is well worth a read

The power of money seems to fuel the greed to have more and more money. Sad for the Rhino’s and other animals who are regarded as commodities to enrich people.

I see it as the lesser of 2 evils. If selling rhinos that are very likely to be poached to safe places where they can breed, saves their lives then I accept it.

Then put in strong controls and tax rhino 'products' heavily and plough that money back into anti poaching.

Let's not moralize about it, because I bet that some of us work in industries that others would find unacceptable.

For instance I am in the gambling industry. i.e. I bet you Rx per month that you don't land in hospital!
