Two of the three times that we have visited Shimuwini we saw snakes – one puffadder during the one visit and a boomslang and another one that I do not know during the other visit. The elephants that we saw en-route to the camp are very big. We saw our first African Wild Cat during the night drive from this quaint little bushveld camp. Bird life in the Letaba River in front of the camp is good.

Shimuwini – Snakes, Elephants, African Wild Cat and Aquatic Birds.

Now I am having to get my brain working, here goes (some plants too)

Satara - a high speed nogternal spider like creature
Letaba - squirrels and elephants
Skukuza - people (heard a Haka late at night, not a hippo)
Sirheni - Buffalo
Bateleur - Gaint Eagle Owl
Roodewal - I am thinking and nothings happens, I think I was sooo jetlagged when I got here the brain has failed to make a memory)
Olifants - well elephants and sausage trees
Biyamati - Ground Hornbill
Berg en dal - frogs in the pool (I hope I am remembering the right one, sounded like a generator)
Pretorius Kop - monkeys
Talamati - Vulture of some sort
Shingwedzi - glossy starlings
Punda Maria - Cameleons

Slighlty off topic - The baked Potatoe tree smell - when ever I smell baked potatoes I get transported hundrends of km round the world to Kruger.

Punda Maria - Old fashioned Hartebeest Huts and the smell of the oil lamps.

Shingwedzi - Flaming Impala lilies in the winter and that almost touchable historical atmosphere.

Letaba - The view from the Restaurant which remained the same throughout the decades. Today a person can still see far into the Kruger across the Letaba river bank, just like those who were there before us.

Olifants - Impala lilies - first time I ever saw them
Tamboti - first ever encounter with honey badgers (and once woken up in the midst of night with them getting it on or something under the floor of the tent!)
Skukuza - memories of warthog with babies in the camp when I was about 7
Shingwedzi - first sighting of a nyala

Balule - the dark star filled night skies, the smell of the paraffin lamps in the ablutions and kitchen and the peace and quiet. (not always guaranteed)

Letaba - The verandah overlooking the river at the restaurant. SANParks must never change the style of that verandah, just give it some repairs and a polish. It is Africa.

Cool topic

Sounds of the bush that exemplifies various camps and picnic spots in the Kruger for me ...

Pafuri picnic spot: emerald spotted wood dove
Punda Maria: nightjars (various) and bushbabies
Sirheni: cicadas and 'purr/trill/rasping?' of a leopard
Shingwedzi: tree squirrels, hornbills, Swainson's spurfowl
Red rocks picnic spot: absolute silence or cicadas
Olifants: :hmz: I don't seem to associate a sound with Olifants... Olifants is more of a visual experience for me... The river view is always what I think of first when I think of Olifants camp.
Letaba: the constant sound of wind blowing through the trees, black-backed jackal
Satara: lions roaring, spotted hyena, black-backed jackal, red-crested korhaan
Lower Sabie: hippos grunting and Diderick's cuckoo
Skukuza: purple-crested turaco
