Well Elsa and Hilda :)

Like i said, it was many moons ago 8) I still remember how quiet i was just after we all got in the car and saw them. :)

Now years later, we can just laugh about the incident

Mods scare me!!!

Oh...IN the park. :)

Felt less than safe at the alight area n of Olifants when I took a solo drive. You get that feeling in a primal area of the brain that says "this isn't a great idea" :)

When I get that hair on the back of my neck feeling, I never ignore it.

Philip,

The think that scares me most is not the big things, but the reptilian things. I once nearly stood on a puffie, it wasn't at Kruger, it was in Benoni

but that is another story.

In Kruger the following made my hair stand on end:

1)In January this year coming around the corner at Orpen Dam towards the lookout point and seeing a huge black mamba lying there – we did not expect it at all but we retreated very quietly and quickly (Not a comfortable hair raising experience)
2) Seeing a woman chucking an empty kentucky box - chicken bones scattering all over - on the ground at Nkulu picnic site whilst the dustbin was a few arm lengths away from her (not a nice hair and blood raising experience)
3) Hearing owls and other animals at night and the very busy wake-up call of the francolins early morning (pleasant hair raising experiences and nice overall feeling). I hope this will be repeated many times for many years to come …

but number 1 and 2  above - NO!

I am usually the one to open his big bek, but I often get support from those a bit less brash.

I have heard too many stories of Leopards to feel completely safe about "protruding", so my policy is to find a place where there is a peaceful group of impies. If there is a Leopard, I will not be the prefered lunch.

One morning I was on my way from Tambotie to Satara. I was very keen to meet some French forumites before they left the Park. please let me bump into them
All went well on the drive, a couple of leisurely stops... until about 20kms from Satara.. then MM realises, there is no way she is going to make it.. the coffee is talking.

About 13kms to go a dirt road.. MM drives in and looks for impies... she finds impies.. feels that wonderful sense of relief.. only a car drives up.... pulls over... eager to see what she is looking at.

MM is mortified...

They smile knowlingly.. and discretely drive off.

It is only then, as she sees the yellow ribbon flapping in the breeze that she realizes....

her prayers had been answered

Just returned yesterday after a marvelous 21 days in the park (Satara & Maroela Campsites).
Lot's of catch-ups to do at home so the TR will take some time.

However..........after having spent hours with the gentle giants around Satara on the old main road (one morning 30 of these old bulls met, greeted and then slowly went their separate ways).........

Driving back by my lonesome self late afternoon at 10 kilometers per hour on the 7 kilometer open section of the H-7 to Maroela. First time I saw the old bull was when he put his foot onto the tarmac right next to my vehicle's door shaking his head and flapping his ears in disbelief at my ignorance. I floored the Isuzu and prayed - he turned his back on the vehicle no more than 15 meters behind me (yes, I stalled the Suzi) and just stared into the distance as if nothing happened. The last part of the drive to Maroela I stuck to the standard speed limit that they are used to :)

The Story with the Snake which fall on my head when I visited the loo. I gues I had written down that Story somewhere in the Forum.

I had worked an on African Farm, once I had my free day when scintitfs arrived and asked me to help. They were looking for a Collard Cheetah. The Story behind in that Area (not SANP so I will not tell the exact location) they have a Cheetah release Projekt. Every Cheetah are Colard, this special one was sneding a Signal, but it doesn´t move around. Since 24h the same Position, wihich is actually strang. So we followed the signal and it gets stronger and stronger, still no view. Then we just walked up, I was one of the first one in the Raw and had look in a Bush. Surprise Surprise the Cheetah saw me and greets mi with a "MMMAAAUUUU" I jumped back and the Cat pushed up in Front of us. Obvious in the opposite direktion. I will never forgett that experience.... Because it was my closes encounter to the Cat, without a Car its was round about 5-10m Eye to Eye... . It was a Hairraising Story bit also a very nice one. But to be honest, I was glad that it was not ALion or Leopard... .

Another Story I had down a Coaoing Trip on a well known River. I was flipping during a rapid. Whrn I got my head up out of the water, i waved my hands that my Colleuges cpuld support me. When I waved my Hand I was eye to eye with an Crocodile which was swimming pretty close to me. Luckily only a small one but that is Logik, where small ones are the bigones are not far. But trust me that mades my Hair stand....
