Eish Matthys, this must have happened just before we disabled or after we enabled the webcam again...this was not supposed to happen :) It shows you that nothing escapes our fast webcammers and forumites!

Dear All

There are some gremlins in the network preventing the images from our webcams to be uploaded to the web server. The webcams are all fine and online and I can 'see' them all here from Pretoria on our Wide Area Network (WAN).

See below that the cams are up and running (check the date/time stamp in the viewer):

Satara:

Orpen:

Nossob:

Addo:

I know the above does not help you a lot but at least there is nothing wrong with the cams or the communication links to the webcams. The problem seems to be security related to get the images 'out' of our network to the webcam server in the USA.

Thanks for all the offers to assist in physically fixing the webcams on site in Kruger, Kgalagadi and Addo but they are all fine (see above)!

We hope to have an update soon!

Hey Danie,

I know a few of my IT techs at work and maybe they know a way to help. I hope your equipment and the computers over here in the states will start communicating again. I miss my cams. I did see a ladder and a hand and shirt. I was telling everyone at work that they have found bigfoot he is over at the watering hole. lol
let me know if I can help.

Hi Larry

The problem is not with the cams itself or the installation, all of that is fine. It is with a firewall on our Internet link here in Pretoria. It prevents the web server in the US to access the webcams to access the images on the webcams to publish it on the website.

Thanks for the offer for help though! The cams are dearly missed by the whole online community! I have the privilege to still 'see' the cameras from my office in Pretoria (online) - see the cam images above of the cams.

I have escalated the issue with the ICT support company providing the firewall service as a matter of urgency!

Let's keep our fingers crossed...

All cams are visible again on our website - firewall issue which blocked the webcam data traffic was resolved :D

Apologies for the time you had to go without the cams!

Happy camming!

Please note that all 4 webcams are currently not visible via our website as we are in the process of replacing a firewall.

Thanks for your patience!

Satara webcam is down at the moment  - not related to the new firewall we have in place on the network.
(seems like a local network issue at Satara itself)
Enjoy the other 3 webcams in the meantime!

You will notice that Orpen is online again after several days of downtime.

This downtime was caused by infrastructure failure on the Telecom service provider's side at one of their telecom sites. A card got faulty and they replaced the card within 2 days with another faulty card  and had problems again sourcing another card. That was done this afternoon and Orpen webcam is online again!

Happy camming!

Hi Meph68

Thanks for the information! I have confirmed it last night as well after MATTHYS reported it.

It will be addressed soon. We have already ordered (prior to this incident) new high tech LED foodlights for installation at Satara and Orpen waterholes which consume a lot less electricity and emit pure white light which should provide better quality images via the webcams! The order was placed about a week ago. Delivery and installation from the suppliers have to be confirmed.

The current older type floodlight at Satara and Orpen will still be supported and blown bulbs replaced as needed until the new LED floodlights are installed at both sites
